50$ is all I'm willing to (and can for that matter) spend on a decent pair of headphones. Preferably with a jack straight into the soundcard. I dont need a mic, but I wouldnt mind if it came with one.

Looking for sound quality thats better than the headphones that come with a typical CD Player. Which is what I'm currently using basically at the moment.

Advice I dont need:
"If you're willing to spend xx more dollars you can get the really awesome xx model"

Advice I do need:
Some examples within my price range.
A good example between the differences of a "good" pair of headphones and a "bad" pair. What specs matter? Any recommended URL's to learn more? etc.

Thanks.

Can't go wrong with the Koss KSC75 for music listening :) They can be had for around ~$15 on Amazon. A steal imho for the quality you get out of them. The phones can be easily sold for $50+ dollars. head-fi.org has plenty of reviews from users.

What would help is giving us some info on what you intend to use the headphones for. Music? Gaming?

for that price i like my koss sporta pros over the koss ksc-75. The reason is the headband of the sportapro holds the drivers closer to your ears so bass seems stronger. Ksc-75 has earclips where you may need to bend the earclips. I got sportapros chearper too for 11.99 when J&R had a sale. Right now they are 19.99 i think vs the ~15.00 for the ksc-75

ugh, for this guy, he doesn't need to go to head-fi........ easy one

Koss KSC-75, buy it, listen to it, and put a stupid looking smile on your face.

Have Fun.

I dunno about that. :)

Head-fi almost always stretches one's budget, but I advised him to go there to learn about the components that affect sound and what's in store for the future, not for him to ask for a headphone recommendation.

Koss KSC35, 75, sportapro, portapro2, or portapro, can't go wrong with any of those. :D

HAHA.. yeah! Although they use "almost" identical drivers.. they are all good!

I second the PX100s. They're great--the only problem is that I think they're normally over $50--but right now on newegg they appear to be right at $50.

dang, 50 bucks... they use to be around 35ish.... But why don't he just add 15 more to get some HD485 which will be much better than the PX100 despite him saying ONLY 50 bucks or less.. ;)

The difference between a good pair and a bad pair? A good pair is greater then 50$. A bad pair is less then 50$ ^_^.

Here is my advice to you though. Whether your looking for el'cheapo headphones, or the best headphones you can find, don't look at specs. No, really, don't even look at specs. Listen to the darn things first.

If you went on specs, sony would have the best everything through and through. haha, i get a kick out of this.

I froogled it and found a place with them for $39 but shipping was $10.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that they have a fairly short cord, ~5', which is fine for portable devices, but if your comp isn't right next to your monitor you might want to get an extension cord.

Keep an eye out for a used Grado SR-60. They can usually be found for around $50 shipped.

The PX-100 is also extremely good, but the Koss KSC-35/75 are more "fun" sounding. The PX-100 is easier to drive though, and (IMO) sounds better than the Koss when not using an amp.

If you want a good pair of closed cans, look at the Sennheiser HD-201.

Or get them recabled. Moon Audio or Headphile should be able to do it for around $120ish. :p

The HD-497's are the cheapest POS ever. Stay away from this particular model headphone. I would spend some more like $100.00, anything under your just asking for junk. You need to invest in your ears man.

I have learned the hard way, by blowing through many pairs of inexpensive headphones that have never brought any lasting enjoyment. They are always breaking, or uncomfortable, or just plain suck.

CN: Pony up, and spend the money on a decent pair of cans. So worth it.

From the sounds of it, PornoSatan already understands he will be paying 50$ for el'cheapo headphones. He might be perfectly happy with cheap sounding ones.
