I love my 1080p projector, and to my eye it produces a better image (or "experience" if you're into that) than my parent's 4k tv. Is there really as big of a leap between a 1080p projector and a mid-tier 4k projector as there is between a 1080p tv and a 4k tv? I'm a bit skeptical of all the "4k" projectors that rely on shifting pixels to create the illusion of 4k, but I'm not willing to drop multiple thousands on a fancy sony one either.

Well they aren't 4k for one. And the DLP's are absolutely awful, even worse than the newer 1080p chips which were completely antiquated.

So unless you want to plop 5k for a sony, or deal with a JVC and e-shift... no, they aren't worth it. Not even close.

Don't let the stigma around "fake" 4k projectors get to you. In motion they look absolutely fantastic. Projector Central is an absolutely invaluable resource if you're into projectors. Projectors are one of the few spaces where the difference from 1080p and 2160p is massively apparent.

I guess I'll just have to find a brick and mortar store where I can actually "see" one of these 4k"ish" projectors in action. I'm not unhappy with the image quality I've got now, but as I said in my first post, the difference between a 1080p tv and a 4k tv is night and day, (about as big of a jump in quality as moving from an LED backlit LCD TV to a projector IMO) and if there's a similar difference between 1080p projectors and the newly cheap 4k"ish" projectors... I'd be happy to upgrade.

The UHD60 I saw compared to my Mitsubishi HC4000 was a massive gulf in image sharpness and clarity. Far bigger and more noticeable to me than going from my old 1080P TV to my current 4k set. Definitely check one out if you can. The image quality blew me away.
