4K extended monitor forgets window settings on wake

I've been googling around but not getting much luck on this one.

I have reports from our laptop users that the 4K monitors we've been upgrading them to (ASUS PB287Q) have an issue where when they sleep their laptops and wake them, the laptop screen and monitor get confused, and it throws every window on one screen, with messed up positions and sizes.

To test this, I swapped out my 27" 1440p monitor (which I verified did NOT exhibit this problem) with one of their 4K monitors, and the problem immediately started. I sleep, I wake, windows are all jumbled.

From my googling it appears these monitors are slow to properly wake up, and/or are getting redetected as "new" which is causing the problem. I tried a few registry tweaks, drivers, etc. but nothing seems to help at all.

Did anyone run into this and figure out a solution?
