Metro Exodus developers, 4A Games, has released the latest trailer for the game that showcases the Special Weapons Class. The video shows Helsing and Tikhar weapons in all of their glory. Metro Exodus launches on February 15, 2019 on PC and consoles. Steam pre-order customers will be able to pre-load the game! Unfortunately those who purchase Metro Exodus from the Epic Games Store will not be able to pre-load the game. The pre-load for Xbox and PS4 customers will begin 48 hours before launch.

Take a closer look at the Special Weapons Class in Metro Exodus. Featuring the Helsing and Tikhar.

Loving that crossbow. Hopefully we get that early on in the game. I wish they would of showed a few more weapons though.

Well that'll be one of the tests for Epic. One of my many personal concerns with Epic is how well their server/network solutions handle the loads of a release of this scale with no pre-load. At ~54GB it ought to be a good test and for better or worse we'll all hear about it by the end of the weekend.

edit: Just saw a reddit stating pre-load showing as ~45GB

Same thoughts - Not pre-loading is just poor experience for people who bought your game - some people have slow connections, that could be hours of downloading. I bought the game, looking forward to it, all this will just pass -- but I really hope the Epic store fails, Steam just works - it's easy, but more stores is not good for the experience - Ubi, Epic, EA, Steam, it's lame for the user experience we can't just have games in one spot.

If I want to pay $10 more for steam convenience, why can't I have that option?

Were you around for Steams early days when they consistently failed for CS/Half life folks forcing them to use their service? Steam as the 'only' spot would be a disaster. One of the reasons they don't make games anymore is the 30% cash cow monopoly they had. I hope all stores succeed but as you asked, they all have the same content. Thus you can choose who to support. Steam at $60 and a centralized gaming world or Epic/other at $50 and you use another launcher.

Singular anything in business world is never good for a consumer.

Makes you wonder if the Epic pre-order sales were so low, they didnt feel a need to pre-load the game. Surely, if the pre sales were spectacular, they wouldve allowed pre-load. They are just setting themselves up for failure (IMO)
BTW: I am one of the pre-purchasers .

I was around! I am not saying to force close alternate stores. I am saying to simple offer on multiple platforms. Let me decide, even if price is different.

exactly - that's why store exclusive content is bad for market - stores do not compete on things important for consumers - they will compete on who pays more for exclusivity - there is no need for more walled gardens - but some price competition would be nice...

I agree with you both indeed. Every provider should have fair claim to content and if they choose varying price models, let consumer choose their path. Personally I like Blizzards launcher design, give me a store there and I'll be alright.

Was my first reaction - that Epic client doesn't even have a preload mechanism. Their client is basically a slopped together webpage.

This is what I don't get about these guys - they want to throw around Fortnite profits to bribe publishers to stop selling games on Steam, but don't appear to have much interest in improving their client, when they should have done the reverse and had an amazing client with baseline features on day one, because first impressions count. This was one of the windows 10 store's big failings - everyone clicked on it once, saw it was a complete mess, and never looked at it again

yep. people are also overlooking just what steam provides nowadays. the steam workshop simply has NO competition for that kind of functionality. While true.. there are some really good mod centers like nexus, etc. its just soo much easier to have a website, steam workshop, where you can browse mods for games, like my favorite franchise civilization, click ADD button, and bam.. its now a part of the game and will auto update as well.

If they can deliver me my full bandwidth @ midnight tonight I won't hammer them for the no pre-load, since downloading is faster then pre-loading for me at this point.

I just don't think they're going to be able to do it though..
