I'm trying to build a CF system (not mine, unfortunately) but just can't get crossfire to work right:

Specs:
2x MSI 4870 OC edition
Asus P5E Deluxe
Q9450 @ stock
4x2gb Supertalent
X-Fi Extreme Audio
Vista Ultimate 64-bit OEM
OCZ EliteXstream 1kw (single 12v rail @80A)

Issues:
No performance gain with CF enabled (3dmark vantage, 3dmark03)
3dmark03: 55000ish
3dmark vantage: P8700ish
Artifact in Jane Nash demo in Vantage, but only if booting with CF enabled; If it boots with CF disabled, then I enable it the test runs fine without artifacts but at single card speeds.

Using hotfix 4800 series drivers.
Checked for MB bios updates, none at all
Latest Intel INF
have 3 cards, all test flawless by themselves. Any combination of 2 yields the same results.
Using 2 cf bridges

I'm kinda stuck on what to try next. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Uninstall drivers, remove one card, re-install drivers with only one card installed on your motherboard, if performance is where it should be install the second card.

Often the drivers won't initiate correctly if you have both cards installed when you install the drivers.

Thanks for the replay.

I tried that already, but I tried it again.

The result is when adding the 2nd card is that it gets a bang in device manager with "this device reported problems" code 43. It does not matter which of the cards it is either. I have run setup and reload the drivers to get the driver loaded correctly.

might be a stupid suggestion but is the CF bridge connected? does gpu-z showing that CF is enabled?

I would start by installing the latest BIOS and reloading BIOS setup defaults. If that does not do the trick, reinstall the windows and make sure you have all the latest drivers for all your components. To me it sounds like you got more dire problems than anything CCC tweaking could fix. Device manager error usully means you got either defective hardware or software at hand.

Also, try to google with words like "3d card error xx" and so on. Could even throw a support ticket at AMD/3D card manufacturer, who knows, they might answer :)

You say you are using the hotfix drivers? Why not try updating to 8.7, or trying your hand at the 8.8 betas?
