I'm thinking of making the jump to 4k gaming with 2 980Ti's in SLI. I'm concerned my 3770 is going to be a bottleneck, even at 4.3Ghz. My first thought is to build a new system around the 4790k. Am I going to be gaining anything by doing so or not? Thanks all.

I run my 3770K @ 4.8Ghz and run a SLI setup with 780ti cards so had the same question. From the research I've done you won't really benefit enough to make the change - overclocking the graphics cards will do 10x more than changing your CPU to a 4790K.

Instead the recommendation was upgrading the cards, then wait for Skylake to do the cpu/ram/mobo.

A 3770K to 4790K won't improve your gaming experience with 2x980Ti because you won't see any improvement on minimum FPS.

Assuming a 2500K and up, the bottlenecks are almost always on the GPU...and it looks like you'll have that part taken care of.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

Now to decide if I want to limit myself to Display Port 1.2, or wait for the monitor company to update their panel to HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.3 (Seiki SM40UNP).
