They are not out yet, buuuut some early rumors claim 2-3% improvement over 4080.
Certainly disappointing, certaily good news for current 4080 owners.

I'm expecting/hoping there'll be alot of OC headroom if AIBs are allowed to really ramp up the TDP from 320w. It seems clear already that limiting the power to the exact same as the 4080 makes it perform almost exactly the same.

The Zotac cards are using the 4090 heatsink, obviously capable of handling 450w, my eyes are on them...

*edit* Reviews are out now! E.g.
https://www.guru3d.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080-super-review/

*double edit*
Zotac has less power OC than even the FE! Asus Strix has the highest, and it doesn't do much.

Nvidia have to be the stingiest least generous tech company in existence
Their disdain for their customers is evident

I don't like to watch video reviews. Doesn't look like its much of an improvement though. What's the verdict?

Ahhh... Thanks! Been having trouble with my vision. Didn't even see the links.

Performance is pretty much the same between the 4080 and 4080s. The only notable change is the $200 reduction in MSRP.

To be totally fair, $200 price drop is about all it actually needed.

Price drop or price correction?

I want to believe these were not selling because consumers were voting with their wallet. But the reality is some were buying them.

So, of course, I want to see this as a price correction because Nvidia thinks consumers are perfectly comfortable with paying for $1000+ gpus.

I will never defend Nvidia's decision to sell the 4080 at the initial price of $1,200. That was just inexcusable greed to bump up the price of the 3080 by over 70%.

But apparently the marketing or pricing team was operating under the impression that people would pay "mining craze" amounts of money for video cards. Turns out that most of us won't.

I also don't like the fact that Nvidia wasn't even trying to improve the 4080 performance with the Super. Only 2%. Really?? Feels lazy.

But GamerNexus did put up an interesting value chart that shows where the Supers line up after release.

Surprisingly the 4080 Super now becomes the second best dollars to FPS value in Nvidia's entire 40 series now with that $200 price cut. Trailing only behind the RTX 4060.

I do agree with you that it is a very good question - how much demand is there for a $1,000 graphics card in the 4080 Super even though it got a significant price cut.

I managed to snag a very solid RX 6800 at MSRP just before the mining crisis fully hit and nobody could buy video cards for sane prices so I've been waiting 3 years to upgrade and now felt like the right time.

But for those who did pay through the nose for a video card during the time of crazy mining prices, they probably want to wait a little longer for better value to come along as that must have really stung the wallet!

Some customers are comfortable with that price.

The key word is some. I'm doubtful the market is going to be large for a 1 thousand dollar video card that isn't the performance king. If anything the people who went all in on the 4090 is probably a larger amount.

I just checked the steam hardware surveys and I was right. Check it out:

In any case the people who post here on H are statistical outliers from the general populace.

For example I run a 3440x1440 Ultrawide OLED. What is that percentage according to steam? Only a whopping 2% compared to the 60% of folks who are still running 1080P and a rarity compared to those who run the second most popular resolution of 2560x1440P. Heck even straight up 4K monitors have more users.

As far as the 4080 Super goes, I certainly don't like the price very much but when I compare it to the current market competition which is the 7900 XTX at $950 or do I get the 4080 Super for $999 and the choice became pretty easy for me.

My goal is to get over 100 FPS at ultra wide 3440x1440P with decent eye candy and having those extra ray tracing and DLSS goodies in the bag makes reaching my goal that much easier.

Side rant: Not gonna watch any reviews about this card because can't stand Steve from Hardware unboxed or Steve from Gamers nexus anymore. They are just so god damn cringe now a days. Steve from Gamers Nexus has progressively gotten more and more cringe over the last few years. Hardware unboxed Steve is just as annoying as he always has been. At least his partner Tim keeps it more professional imo. Anyway, it performs the same as the 4080 and the bullshit about it's at the price point it "should have been" is hogwash also It should have been 700 bucks but of course "It's not 2013 anymore inflation etc" is what we are trained to say. Thanks Jenson Wang the cringe lord master of them all.

Biggest question to me is what will the RTX 5080 launch price be. If we assume a late Q4-24 or early Q1-25 launch (based on cadence of 30x0/30x0 Super and 40x0 launches) we aren't that far out. 4080S for $1000USD or 5080 for 1200USD if it offers ~30-40% performance boost and possible new features or better power/heat.

What exactly is wrong with HUB or GN? I find their review coverage to be some of the best out there.

I don't know exactly what he's saying. First he's angry that they're pointing out the inflated nvidia prices, then takes a swing at Jensen for raising those prices.

Any user reviews? Ppl reviewed 4080s - and some ppl would talk about coil whine - is there any difference this time around or the same situation?

Coil whine is going to be more of a lotto thing so unless many people start reporting issues with a particular card I wouldn't trust one person's review in that aspect.

Yep, that's the conclusion I was leaning towards - I've read various ppl talking about how their motherboards and power supplies had some impact or determination.... wow, such diversity of impressions and interpretations! So, when buying used - you 'get what you get' - so that kinda worries me a bit.

Their coverage is extensive and good, especially Gamers Nexus. That's the problem. Their coverage is great, their presentations are annoying as hell, I just can't stand them anymore. If you don't cringe watching their act as they present the information they are failing to reach you and it's flying over your head. This is where Hardware Kanucks is 100 times more enjoyable to watch because all 3 of their presenters are solid, respectful, and professional subtracting all the bullshit that the Steves now regularly shove down the viewers throats. Jayz 2 cents is a clown and makes an ass out of himself regularly, but at least he has a likeable personality unlike the Steves who are just assholes and flaunt it.

I can’t seem to finish any of the GN videos because of the way the host speaks. There’s something about his voice. I get bored listening to the guy. I can’t explain it but it sounds as if he’s closing his throat when he speaks and it sounds very scratchy like he always has a sore throat or something.

You can always mute and just look at the different graphs. Even I do that from time to time.

LOl, full disclosure here, I sometimes put his stuff on to fall asleep. His monotone and data heavy presentations, while thorough and very useful, put me to sleep in my easy chair.
