4 sticks of DDR4 (4x8GB) vs 2 sticks (2x16GB) on Z370?

Currently running a moderately overclocked 8700K (4.9ghz) on a Asus Z370 board with 2 sticks of 8GB DDR4 3000. I've been considering upgrading to 32GB since RAM prices are falling back to more reasonable levels.

Any issues getting another matching 2x8GB kit and running 4 sticks? I just want to run the RAM at its rated speeds usingthe default XMP profiles.

Pricewise, the upgrade price for either option would be the roughly the same, as I'd sell the current kit if I upgraded to a 2x16GB kit.
 
You might need to up voltage / relax timings a bit, but it should work. Just start by setting the memory to run at a JEDEC speed for tossing the next two modules in.

[FWIW, I've been able to run 4x16GB on a 6700K before, so it's not like it won't function if everything is in working order]
 
4x4GB GSkill C14 3000 have worked great for me from z170 to z370. Have never had a crash running at XMP speeds, even with reduced voltages.
 
I had 2x8GB 3200c14 Ripjaws V at 3733c16 and added 2x8GB 3200C14 Flare X all now running 3600c15 on a 6700K.
It really comes down to your MB and how good it's BIOS is.

No quad channel but if your current kits are single sided\rank you will get a small boost to bandwidth from dual rank interleaving.
However if your current kit's are already dual rank then it will just make the memory controller work harder with 4 sticks.
 
I have a very similar setup and JUST within the last week installed a second set of 2x8 gig and have had no issues with my system at 4.9ghz. Been gaming and benching quite a bit with no issues with stability.
