Just a minor detail to this - no one has to do house to house searches, and there were plenty of guns of Europe. It was the main area World War 1 and 2 took place after all.
What have taken place in most European countries was the "carrots and sticks" method. When certain types of weapons were outlawed, you had two choices. You could either give it to state to destroy/modify in an amnesty period (carrot part). Or you could keep it, but if you were found out later to own such outlawed weapon, you could face jail time. Of course if you handed in a weapon in the amnesty period and it was found out that a crime was committed with it, you had hard time with police.

Even now, in 2010's, we often have weapon amnesty, where you can bring in unregistered weapons and either get them registered (if lawful by current laws), dismantled or modified to be unusable (so they look like a normal weapon, but you can't fire from it).

In Australia, when they outlawed semi-auto weapons, they offered a buyback scheme to remove the banned weapons from circulation.

The only incident I can remember in my country of a school shooting was a guy with a crossbow. And you have a school incident not because teenagers have access to guns (guns related to hunting are common in many countries of Europe. And yes, a hunting shotgun is obviously not as useful in a killing spree compared to a semi-auto gun because you will be realoding much more, but it is better than nothing), but because somebody's mind is so fucked up in there that he decides that his best option in life is go to harm a bunch of people then off himself. So, what differs between our teenagers compared to yours is that ours have less fucked up minds. Which is why I mentioned mental health problems. Being bad has nothing to do with any of it. Attacking a school then suiciding isn't an act of malice. It simply isn't.

And yes, you should legislate out of the problem you face. Or what do you propose? To do nothing? To arm the teachers? To put military guards in every school? To solve a problem you need to:

a) Understand it's root cause
b) Try to attack said root cause

Are any of these being addressed? Why so many teenagers are shooting their schools? It is very sad that a kid takes that route for whatever reason. Very, very sad. Yes, the root cause is that teenagers are going nuts for some reason. Putting more or less guns won't change that fact. Putting more or less security into a school won't change that fact.


PS: and no, we aren't "sheep". And funny that you mention it... even though we can't defend ourselves from tyrannical governments nor drugged up criminals... we have less problems with those too. In regards to the first part of your post my question is always how does a government take away those weapons, especially with how many guns there are in this country? That's the scary part to me. I can't imagine how this country would do anything other than collapse in on itself by attempting to take guns away.

You want horrendous... 75 people shot per weekend in South Chicago. Doesn't make the news though. Doesn't fit the narrative. Comparing the US to Europe is apples to oranges by the way. We sport more surface area than most of Europe combined and have population numbers that far surpass any European country on it's own. Statistically you can't compare the US to any single European country.

He was ill, of that I'm sure, but the victims are those who were wounded or killed for no reason at all.

I can't say I'm surprised by this type of thing. I'm surprised it took so long. Twitch and big time tourneys have been around a long time now. Gaming is a great place for people who don't do as well socially to thrive. The gaming culture is a haven for many poor souls who probably are mentally ill. Gaming doesn't cause violence or mental health problems, but it is the perfect escape for those that already have issues. I've played with some weird motherfuckers online that's for sure. I'm a pretty weird guy and I'm not even in the same universe as some of these people.

Take those weird people who are used to being at home and then throw them into these live tourneys where they never belonged in the first place and shit will go bad eventually

The basic issue is: do you provide protection or not? If you don't, are you preventing people from providing their own protection (private property etc.).

A large part of this is the idea of banning weapons by decree, but then not enforcing said ban while also not providing protection commensurate with the activity.

This applies to an elementary school as much as it does to a large convention with a tournament where tempers are sure to run hot.

That's why you compare the United States vs the European Union in these things, to average things out. We have very troubled countries and very safe ones. Also, when doing that the EU has double to population, not sure about surface area though.
