There are two different battery backup modules for these device (3ware 9650SE-12ML), bbu-module-3 and bbu-module-4, I can't seem to find anywhere online that explains the differences, both seem to offer the same features/specs. Can someone please explain the differences in the two?

The BBU-4 comes with a dummy PCI card which the battery attaches to. This is designed for the 9690SA cards which has no physical space on the card for the battery to clip onto. The BBU-3 comes without the dummy PCI card. This one is made for the 9550 and 9650. You can tell if your card can accomdate the battery by looking for 3 holes in the PCB near the PCI bracket. That's where the battery clips onto.

Thanks, I don't know why I didn't realize that before, I guess because the one time you need a product to say "Card not included" (for the BBU-3); it doesn't!

It's nice to be able to order the cheaper version of something for once lol
