LOL, my bad, the nomenclature gets confusing sometimes, especially when one rolls into a whole bunch of CPU threads first thing in the morning...! ;^p

4 way SMT. Hmm..

It's not impossible, but it might be reckless. Many of the vulnerabilities being found in x86 out-of-order CPUs stem from the kind of cache sharing that SMT leverages, and one still has to ask, if there are enough resources in a core to run that many threads- why not separate them into cores?

Zen4 wiil have a new socket. Not sure about if that happens at Zen3 or Zen4. I thought the original plan was Zen4. However there were mentions of the socket change at Zen 3 today in this forum.

AMD just changes what each CPU needs from the motherboard, so your old board might "work", but you'll be left wanting more, especially if you're planning on running high boost speeds or overclocking.

Can't have it both ways.
 
That's not really a limitation for the kind of use that the sixteen core parts will see. The lower latency and higher clockspeed will make more of a difference at the performance edge, I think.
You may be right. I look forward to seeing the results. Looks like TR3 won't be here for a while.
 
Honestly I think you should wait longerrr...Zen 2 trust me has enough Horsepower. It is a good time to get another GPU, maybe another ram kit/PSU and like nice Peripherals etc whatever. You saved a few bucks for that etc.

Yeah but you'll likely change after you buy AMD anyways.. Who knows if AM4 will support Ryzen 4000 series, etc.?

EDIT: I also want to mention that by the time Ryzen 4000 rolls around it may be time for DDR5, which may be reason to change sockets too? I'm speculating of course. No crystal ball here unfortunately. XD

1. First off, the title is rather sensational and misleading.
2. Both are NOT running 2133mhz in that test
3. Pretty sure 6189 vs 5406 is more than a 1.09% SC advantage.
4. Unknown if the 9900k was running MCE, otherwise it was only clocked at 3.6ghz vs 3.9 ghz of the 3800x.
5. The amount of salt the suggest using is WAY too small.

As is usual with the AMD news , we anticipate its official launch to bring you a juicy review of the new AMD Ryzen 5 3600 . It is true that we had to do it on a previous generation X470 motherboard , although with its BIOS updated to offer "total" compatibility (depending on the manufacturer) and drivers to the latest. Of course, do not worry, that shortly we will also have the review with an X570 board .

This review we could have published a few weeks ago, but we prefer to wait to have a final BIOS for the motherboard X470 and the X570, but for now the overclock does not work on the chosen motherboard, freezing the system just touch the multiplier.

In short, the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is a revision of the Ryzen 5 2600 that maintains the 6 cores , which in turn offer 12 threads . It is true that it offers an improvement in frequencies, which are at 3.60 GHz of base and reach 4.20 GHz in Turbo mode , also increasing the L3 cache to 32 MB .

As we can see in CPU-Z , the set of instructions supported has MMX (+), SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, SSE4A, x86-64, AMD-V, AES, AVX, AVX2, FMA3 and SHA, the same as in previous generations of Ryzen .

To analyze the performance of the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor , we have mounted it on a Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi motherboard together with G.Skill FlareX DDR4 @ 3200 MHz memories and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition graphics . Obviously, we have installed BIOS F40 , the latest available, which gives "full" support for the new Ryzen 3000 , or so they promise.

It is true that we have been able to configure everything without problems and that the operation seems correct, although later we will see that the problems of the first generation of Ryzen processors with the memories seem to reproduce in latencies and copies.

Synthetic Tests
Next, we show you the results of the performance tests performed on this and other processors in calculation benchmarks (wPrime), rendering (Cinebench), coding (x264) and memories (Aida64) to analyze the mono and multithreading performance.

Temperature and Consumption
Under an ambient temperature of 20ºC, the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 offers temperatures of about 40ºC at rest and about 75ºC in its stress test, a really good value if we take into account that we have used the reference heatsink and that it is around 5ºC below what the previous generation achieved.

On the consumption, say that it has improved notably remaining around 125W for the complete equipment in the stress test of Aida64 (without disks or GPU) and around 360W for benchmarks in which if the graph intervenes. If we take into account that when we analyzed the Ryzen 5 2600 and the Ryzen 7 2700X , the difference in consumption was 55W , that we now have a difference of 65W in this test equipment between the Ryzen 5 3600 and the Ryzen 7 2700X tells us that Energy efficiency has not improved along with the 7 nm process.

Your choice compensates, yes, but it is not the panacea. The AMD Ryzen 3000 goes on sale on July 7 , like the rest of reviews.

Hmm... Seems like new Ryzens are trading blows, but at a lower price point, or offering more cores at the same price point, etc.

EDIT: I'm saying that with some guestimation of how the higher end models (which are clocked higher) should perform vs. the higher end Intel models shown in this review.

The 3600 does quite well here, especially given its low boost clock relative to the 2700X and, of course, the 9900k.

Very curious to see how the faster 3900X performs here.

We dont even have zen2 out yet. This is far too early of a thread topic to be discussing but that's my 2 pennies.
 
I'm guessing its probably a bios support issue which will be worked out over time. There's really no reason for it to be lower.

Yeah. Could be the infinity thingy is running 1/2 speed which would explain the crappy latency number on one of the tests. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My 6700k still works well, but after experiencing some hex core goodness on a cheap lappy I own with an 8750H I'm dying to migrate to a 3900x or 3950x.

To analyze the performance of the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor , we have mounted it on a motherboard that we have baptized as ECI X570 Monster VIII Turbo Fan Plus Ultra Z RGB (we do not want any manufacturer to be harmed without any reason, since none of them acceded to that its motherboard was used) next to the memories G.Skill FlareX DDR4 @ 3200 MHz and the graph Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition and the operative system in its most updated version Windows 10 June 2019 Update.

Obviously, we have installed the last available BIOS, final BIOS destined for the July 7 reviews, but it is not allowed to perform overclock with this CPU.

This is probably due to different frequency profiles and voltages, although the performance has not been reduced.

On the consumption, say that it has improved notably remaining around 130W for the complete equipment in the stress test of Aida64 (without discs or GPU) and around 350W for benchmarks in which the graph does intervene. This is 5-10W less than with the X470 board .

However, compared to the performance offered by a previous generation X470 motherboard and an X570 we have not found great differences, except in some game that seems to give some extra, but not widely, so it is not mandatory to buy an AMD X570 , except if we plan to buy a PCI-Express 4.0 SSD.

I assumed he did that for those bulldozer users that don't have enough processing power to pull up another website allong with hardocp :).
 
Most important thing is : is it compatible with Windows 7 Pro ? I mean it doesn't crash and doesn't crash after BIOS update. Does the 3900 with 2 core chiplets support Windows 7 ? (if 3900 does, 3950 may also).
I suppose X570 chipset won't have Windows 7 drivers, but X470/B450 will and they will be compatible if the BIOS after update will.
I will never Windows 10, will go Linux + VT instead + Windows 7 Pro again, if needed.

I'm asking because Threadripper plateform receive a BIOS update after TR2 series compatibility which made it incompatible with Windows 7. So to run Windows 7 on a TR plateform you need TR1 series and keep the older BIOS.

This is far from the most important thing....

There is no way the kernel or scheduler in win7 is in any way optimised for the ccx architecture. As you alluded to, support is patchy at best.

Also, ECC and 128 gig of ram are both unnecessary for 99.8% of users. I’m sorry, if you think otherwise you are delusional.

You need to be looking at an HEDT platform. Not AM4.
