3d mark 05/06 scores DROP after overclock?

What in the hell is this?!

OC'd my 8800GTS by 75 mhz, then to 100 mhz, and then to 125 Mhz, all stable OC's, hell I even went as high as 150 mhz over stock core clock...I went on up to 1750 on the ram as well. All stable, no artifacting, and no excessively high core temps.

Why in the hell are my 3d mark 2005 and 2006 scores DROPPING when over clocked, shouldn't they go HIGHER?!

3dmark 05 score BEFORE OC's - 11721
3dmark 05 score AFTER OC's - 11068

3dmark 06 score BEFORE OC's - 7525
3dmark 06 score - AFTER OC's - 7494

Not as drastic of a drop on 06 as in 05 but still, WTF?!

Is my CPU bottlenecking? It's a stock clocked E6300.

How many times did you rune 3DMark to make sure the scores weren't just fluctuating?

It happens.
Try slowly lowering the overclock on the card until you get better numbers.

I would also test to see if you get better or worse FPS in games with the overclock.
 
I ran the tests several times at different clocks other than listed above...I just figured the higher ones were more relevant. ALWAYS a lower score than before. I spent nearly 2 hours running 3dmark benches.
 
Uh, holy shit! LOL. I OC'd my processor to 2.275 Ghz, up from 1.86 Ghz, and my 05 score jumped to 14062! I guess my CPU was bottlenecking after all! Now time to try other clocks on the GPU and CPU and see if I do better.

Gained another 800 points bumping the processor up 200 mhz and the core for my GPU up 25 mhz...jesus this stuff responds to overclocking like MAD
 
could be oc'ed too high. Are you getting any artifacts? If the card is really stressing out the performance will drop.
 
No artifacts.

FYI: 3d Mark 06 jumped it's score up to 9760 after all my OC's!
 
3.17 Ghz, 626 core, 1850 ram, 10000+ 3d mark 06, forgot 3d mark 05
