I have a 3Come superstack switch 4400 with a gigabit copper module. My question is will this switch handle downing the MTU size for the fast ethernet segmant if I run the gigabit segmant with jumbo frames?

Google isnt helping much I was hopinh one of you guys might know. Thanks in advance.

Fragmenting packets is an IP protocol deal, so thats layer 3. However, managed switches usually have options to fragment packets from gige ports to 100e ports.

As said above, fragmenting packets is done at the IP layer, so thats a router thing. Normally you'd have the the jumbo machines all on their own network (aka, VLAN) and the normal MTU devices on their own network, and have the router fragment as needed. I'm not sure if a switch will do this or not.
