Update: Review from LinusTechTips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnrxNfxRK_4 (spoiler: best monitor ever)

As release seems to be imminent on these 34" UltraWide QHD panels, I thought we should have a place to discuss these upcoming displays. It is my great hope that these come in at a low enough price point (probably the LG UM65) that they are a great success. Pricing on the LG 34UM95 is rumored to be ~$1300. If this is true, then the 34UM65 could actually end up below $1000 which would be unbelievable.

Looking at GPU power necessary to game on this resolution, we see that these panels fall between 3x 1080p eyefinity (5760x1080) and 1x 30" (2560x1080). A single 780 should be able to run most games at this resolution. My preference has always been a large screen with a small screen out to the side (37" Westinghouse w/22" next to it). This screen should be perfect for watching movies and playing games. I'll probably put a smaller 20" to 22" monitor floating on one side to keep applications available during full screen gaming/movies.

As you can see from the comparisons below, the height is about the same as a 27" 16:9 and ~33% wider or ~8". This equates to ~35% more viewable area coming than a 27" 16:9.

Comparing to a 30" 16:10, the height is ~16% less or ~2.5" and ~19% or ~5.8" wider. This equates to ~3.4% more viewable area than a 30" 16:10. It's essentially a squashed 30" 16:10.

One thing I'm seeing in the YouTube videos is a lack of VESA mounting holes, at least in the one they have at CES. But LG's press release does mention a UB65 model "boasting an ergonomic design and versatile adjustments just right for the office."

I had one of the LG 21:9 displays and returned it because of the PWM backlighting, so I'm hoping these won't use it. But I imagine it will be like the 29" displays where LG was first and then other manufacturers will come along and use the panels (Dell has already announced one as you mentioned). I love my current ASUS 29" so here's hoping they make a 34" version at some point.

I'm all in once one of these 34" 3440x1440 displays has G/Free sync.

If you look at the article I linked in the original post, you'll see some pictures on the second page. Obviously, the production model may differ, but at least this model looks to have VESA mounting holes .

As for the UB65 model, I purposely left it out of my post because I think that one will only be released in a 29" model. Please see this press release from LG where they state, "The 29-inch UB65 is geared towards workplace productivity."

I loved the 29" 2560x1080, but it was just too short coming from a 37" Westinghouse for me to wrap my head around. Here's hoping this is THE multi-use computer monitor I'll be able to use for the next 7 years (how long my Westinghouse lasted).

I wouldn't hold my breath... I'm just hoping enough people buy these that they don't kill off the 21:9 aspect ratio like they did in HDTVs.

One thing I forgot to mention in my post is that playing League of Legends on a 21:9 affords additional view of the far east and west of the map that 16:10 or 16:9 doesn't allow.

Does anyone know when these will start hitting the US? I haven't seen anything since CES.

Been wondering the same thing. I have been holding onto this Westinghouse 37in monitor for a while, and these monitors look like the perfect upgrade.

This thing sounds awesome. Is there anyway it could have displayport 1.2a for freesync support?

Exactly, plus the width is not too far from the 37in and for me this is what matters the most. I wanted basically two screens without the bezel and this is as close as you can get at this point.

My thinking exactly. Would still like to have a smaller monitor (22" or less) in the vertical orientation off to the side. Probably on a monitor arm from the desk so it floats to the side. That's the setup I had with the Westinghouse 37" and it was great.

When is this bad boy coming out? Really hoping the UM65 is less than $800

I like the look of these. I have a U2711, and had the chance do buy the U2913WM but didnt because of the lack of vertical pixels. I would definitely be interested in one of these. If that UM65 is really under $1000 my bank account might hate me.

that info from PCM2 is a month old unfortunately. no news since then and it's really bugging me lol.

Yeah, the only other information I could find was referencing this thread... haha

So is someone going to give LG a call? That would be a fun exercise...

I think I'll probably end up replacing my eyefinity setup for one of these monitors. My system is multi purpose, so these make a lot sense for blu ray consumption. I'll probably keep around one of my a750d for when I really need 120hz. Any guesses on if these will overclock? 72hz would be nice for movies.

My LG29in Ultrawide overclocks to 78hz , im hoping to grab one of these 34in ones. I can hardly wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to some Belgian webshops, the LG model is going to cost around 860 euros. Release should be imminent, as well.

Oh that's good news. I can be very happy with that in terms of general gaming and movies. 96hz would be preferable, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

I'd want to see actual user reviews before getting all excited about it. I look at it from a gamer's perspective and how well it works in that use. :)

That looks really good. Can't wait to see what the Dell version looks like. I want to replace my eyefinity setup with one of these.

1500 is definitely not competitively priced, especially not with the Gsync monitors on the horizon

Seeing how LG is pushing 21:9 monitors this year thanks to last year's success, I can see the appeal with 1400p 21:9 monitors. But really 1500$? I guess this is the highest end, eagerly waiting for other models pricing,

Hmm, thinking of ordering the moniter but I think GSync is needed to play at that current res.

I wonder if the price is so high because it is sold by a third party and not Newegg and its so early. But I did expect it to be around $1000-1500 I was hoping closer to $1000. Still its much better then $4000 for a 4K monitor.
