34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

^ read through the thread. It's a driver issue with DP 1.2, and unless you actually NEED DP 1.2 for the 1% of professional programs that utilize it, you should be using DP 1.1. Just because the number is higher doesn't mean you need it, as DP 1.1 is fine and doesn't prevent you from experiencing 3440x1440 @ 60hz.
"Read through the thread"

LOL -- If you have 78 hours on your hands to read through the whole thing.

I ran DP 1.2 just fine under Win8.1, but since upgrading to WinX, I've had flicking on the right half of the screen ... but only sometimes. I think it's a driver issue. I run NVIDIA and I've tried 3 different driver versions.

Disabling DP 1.2 stops it from happening, of course.

Is this amount of backlight bleed acceptable for a monitor priced like this? I don't think so
You can't really tell from a photo what the monitor looks like. I could take a photo of the Hope Diamond that makes it look like a nugget of asphalt.

I've been running a 34UM95 for ages. When I first got it, I noticed some backlight bleed/glow/whatever and worried about it a bit ... Then I stopped worrying about it. Have not noticed it ONCE during actual use unless the PC was rebooting and on a blank screen before POST.

I own the Dell and LG curved 34 inch displays. I find myself only using the Dell because the LG has a very annoying bug where the screen turns to snow if the computer goes to sleep or gets rebooted. To get the LG to work again I have to physically flip the switch off and on behind he monitor. This gets old very fast. The blacks do look slightly better on the LG, but it's hardly noticeable. Definitely not worth the $400 premium over the Dell.

(34 inch displays)
Dell 34 inch curved (U3415W) -- best priced 34" curved display, good picture, vesa mountable, good colors, no backlight bleed speakers suck, bottom of bezel a little warped
LG 34 inch curved (34UC97) -- way too expensive, buggy, thunderbolt doesn't work, ports hard to get to on the back

(27 inch displays)
Asus MX27AQ 27-inch -- thin, light, good speakers, amazing color no Vesa
Dell UltraSharp U2715H 27-inch -- thin, light, good color, Vesa no speakers
Dell UltraSharp U2715H 27-inch -- thin, light, good color, Vesa no speakers

Do you have any specific info on the thunderbolt problem and why is black better on LG? It is the same panel.
I had LG 34UC97, but swapped for Dell 5K.
Still, since 5K is a bit problematic in Windows due to not all apps working scaled and really s****y driver by Nvidia, I'm thinking of going back to 34" UW.

Curious question - i own the U3415W and bought a PS4 yesterday. I proceeded to hook the PS4 up to the HDMI port, and my PC on the MiniDP port with the cable that came with the monitor.

Over the MiniDP port, the PC display goes blank repeatedly while the PS4 in Picture in Picture stays fine.

Anyone else see/hear of this issue? The intervals at which the screen blank are completely random, and if I power cycle the monitor is stops for a while, but eventually comes back.

I thought that the blacks were slightly better on the Dell, but I never ran the two side by side and don't have any measurements so it was just my personal perception.

The Dell was the clear winner to me. Less expensive, better stand, no sleep bug or "split" screen corruption, etc. It just seemed like a more polished monitor overall, but I was comparing it to the 34UM94, not the 34UC97.

Greetings gentlemen,

I have just received a LG 34UM67 this week and today I noticed a pretty unusual behaviour with one of its pixels... I suppose it's kind of a stuck red pixel, but it behaves rather different. It only "lights up" and gets stuck in red (against a black background) if there is a white or bright window right below it (on the same vertical line, that is). So I guess it's not exactly stuck, but it lights up in red when there is a bright image right below it (for example, when I drag a window below the area). It's a pretty specific condition, as it only lights up when the window gets right below the same vertical line.
I have made a video, tell me what you think, if you would be so kind (watch in 1080p, or 2160, and fullscreen for a better view of the said pixel):

To those running with adapters, I have a videocard which only has dual link DVI. I'd like to run it straight to the display port. Which adapters are you guys using that support 3440x1440 @60hz?

I have a slightly annoying issue with my LG 34UM95...sometimes when the montior shuts off or the computer tries to go to sleep and comes back, the monitor is only displaying 1600x900 instead of full display of 3440 x 1440. I have it connected to my video card via displayport.

See other specs in the sig.

For the price they're selling at I would personally look into the 31um97 for better color accuracy and even higher resolution. 4096x2160(!)

Hm, I just bought the LG 34UM95, and the LG 29UM57s. I dont get the UM95 till Thursday so I cant tell what I like more, but its interesting to see what you guys are saying about it. I hope the BLB isnt too bad.

That monitor has more issues than the UM95. I just got my UM95 and loving it so far. I havent tried to replicate the sleeping mode issues as I'm using scren saver. Will try it when I have more time.

IPS glow seems like a norm for this panel. Mostly left bottom corner. Black light bleed? I havent noticed. Dead pixels? Havent tried to find them yet. Will do more test when I get home today.

I remember setting up the OSD to Fast response time-Picture to Game Mode (vivid color) I Should change the response time to Normal and see if there's any difference.

Games:
Played Batman Arkham knight-Smooth but needs to tone down the shadow setting to normal to get a constant 40-60 fps
Skyrim: Constant 60ps and butter smooth. No issue here
Crysis 2: High settings-buttery Smooth Extreme Settings: FPS palys around to 35-50fps: Ultra settings: Can still run it but FPS goes down around 20-30.
Steam game: CS:GO Smooth and constant over 60fps:
Day of Defeat Source: This is where I'm having an issue. It feels like it's jerky but yet my fps is constantly over 60fps. It's not smooth and feels slow. Not sure if anyone here use this monitor for Source games but it's just annoying. But no problem running CS:GO. I'll try different resolution if that would fix the problem.

Overall, I'm happy for the purchase I made and paid $675 and most likely to keep it until I can afford the Acer Predator.

Damn, can you return it? I dont know if the deal is still available but it was $500 over the last week for the non thunderbolt version.

For the record, the Dell does have some backlight bleed. But it looks a lot better than the LG and is cheaper over here. 2 months or so now with the Dell and it's AMAZING. Wished it was a bit bigger though. It's the same vertical as my old 24" 16x10 monitor. So it's not like 1.5x 27 inch, but more like 2x 24".

I got the Thunderbolt because I'm planning on using my mcbook pro on it. I know there was a deal for non TB for $500 from other site but I needed the TB for macbook purposes. :(

Oh well. I dont have any macbooks or mac pros and I am almost strictly using this as my work at home monitor lol.

ok. my UM95 does not have this sleep issues you guys talking about. Perhpas the driver fixed it and I'm using 1.2DP. Turned off my PC last night and kept the monitor on and went to sleep mode or power saving mode. This morning, turned on PC w/out touching the monitor and it came on. Using the DP cable that came with it.

hmm my issues went away it seems like...the new Crimson drivers haven't repeated the problems I was having

Got it Thursday and I have been loving it. Black light bleeding is acceptable to me and really only in the left bottom corner. I have been using the PiP (or PBP) function a lot to watch sports and work on things at the same time, works perfectly.

(34 inch displays)
Dell 34 inch curved (U3415W) -- best priced 34" curved display, good picture, vesa mountable, good colors, no backlight bleed speakers suck, bottom of bezel a little warped
LG 34 inch curved (34UC97) -- way too expensive, buggy, thunderbolt doesn't work, ports hard to get to on the back
Had both, Dell has noticeably worse picture quality. Colors are washedout and changing brightness, other settings did not help much. I think it's problem with cheap backlight and mate coating.
So ended up with LG 34UC97S, the best picture quality of all three 34 I have tried including Dell and Samsung.
Yes, it's more expensive and stand isn't the best, but for picture quality is the most important part and other two disappoint me a lot, especially Samsung.

This is the first time I've seen the 34UC97S mentioned. Whats the difference in the different models?

I purchased this monitor in October this year. I used DP to connect it to my laptop. Initially I though everything works well but after a few weeks the monitor occasionally started to turned off the power itself for a few seconds and turned on again. This happened like 1~2 times a day. Then one day, it suddenly went nuts. It continuously did power cycle for like 10 times then won't wake up anymore. I ended up requesting a replacement with Dell. It spent me one week until I got the new one.

However, with new one, I still can see this issue. But not as frequent as previous one. It only happens every 2~3 days.

I have tried everything, such as replace DP, power cable. power cord. But none of them fixes the problem.

I think DP problem can be excluded because I can see the power light is off when this issue happens. If the DP cause the problem, the power led should remains on I suppose?

Now I don't really know what to do with it? Has anyone encountered the same problem? Should I call Dell to get a replacement again?

My graphic card: GTX 670MX

Also had the blanking video issue, but on a LG 34UM65. (DP to GTX 970)

I've since switched to HDMI, and it's never happened since. Doesn't occur on the DVI-D connects either.

Is this 34"+ curved monitor a trend that is going to continue, catch on full blaze and really bring the quality up and prices down over the next year?

Any idea if they're going to try and push it past 34", creeping towards 40" or more? Or is that not possible/scalable with 1440?

Either way I'm amazed at the price of the curved 34" Dell! I may just get one for my new build.

I was considering 3 of their 25" 1440 monitors, as I've always run a 3 monitor setup for multi-tasking (NOT gaming) and thought I would always have 3 monitors, but I think I could scale down my overall desktop to run a seamless/bezeless one of these and be quite happy & content.

For those that have ran 3 monitor setups in the past, do you miss it at all in any way compared to a single large curved 34"?

Looking at the 34UM95-P at $525 looks a pretty good deal. Can you run games like CS:GO (only game I play) at 2560x1440 with black bars? I really like this format for work so if I can do that I think I might pull the trigger.

Got U3415W recently from the Dell deal. Great monitor. I haven't test out DP to see if there's any issue.

I think for gaming monitors it will be sticking around for some time. Its that good happy medium between 1080p and 4k.

Is your issue same with mine? I meant did your monitor do power cycling sometimes (turn on and turn off by itself)? Or just show blank screen? Just want to know if we have the same symptom.

I had this problem too. Dell has a Knowledge Article for this issue in which they recommend changing the monitor's DisplayPort mode from 1.2 (the default) to 1.1. This fixed the problem for me.

My screen would suddenly go black and then a few seconds later it would be back to normal. I think there was a click sound when this happened. This would happen randomly, sometimes every day or a couple of times a day or many days apart. Changing the monitor to DisplayPort mode 1.1 has completely eliminated the problem.
