34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

hello! i read this entire thread before i even purchased my 34" curved. In fact, i just joined the other day just so I could give you guys my inputs...
I decided to go with the Samsung 34" curved. Based on the IPS reviews I've seen and even threads comparing IPS vs VA vs TN etc.
I can honestly say this thing is amazing. The blacks are so black, it's like AMOLED. now I thought that I had noticed refresh rate problems out of the box but that has subsides aftera couple weeks. either monitor getting broke in or the NVIDIA settings getting tweaked within windows control panel. Games are fluid and look amazing. Sometimes I will set frame limiter at 60hz just so I get no screen tearing, but there is no lag or ghosting whatsoever even with its 5ms response.

I paid a little more than the Dell, ($1299) but Amazon shipped it overnight and on a Saturday for $17 so i have no complaints. paired with a GTX 970 that shipped with it, I have a nice upgraded setup.

Like I said, no regrets going with the VA panel in the end, especially with this amazing contrast ratio and deep blacks.

Glad you're happy with it. I did a direct comparison between the Samsung and the LG, I didn't like the color shift that I saw on the VA panel and preferred the IPS, but other than that it looked amazing.

+1. Glad to see someone else going with the Samsung option. I would probably prefer it to all of the 34" ultrawide monitors that are available right now, but I couldn't justify paying nearly $1300 for it when the Dell was available for less than $800 during the recent SlickDeal. But if they were close in price, I'd likely have gone with the Samsung. As fantastic as the LG and Dell monitors are, I'm a sucker for VA panels.

Actually if I was going to use the monitor for a very long time I might pay the extra for the Samsung anyway, but the Philips BDM4065UC is my grail monitor right now so I doubt I'll be using a 34" as my primary after I get my hands on that beast.

I've got a Revision A01. Love it.

I've also got this faint repitative clicking sound coming from the monitor. At first I thought there could be an insect stuck in there trying to get out!

Is this a common problem? Will Dell replace if for free? I bought from Microsoft store when they had that deal.

Hi guys so I just got my U3415W (A01) in and love it but... does anyone else's monitor make a slight buzzing noise? Its gets worse when I'm on a page like Google Images.

It seems like its coming from the Dell logo in the middle, can you guys check your monitors to see if it has the same noise?

You two talking about the same kind of sound? I will check mine after work and report back.

I don't know if it's same noise. Mine isn't really a buzzing noise. Sounds like something inside the frame is tapping it's little leg against the frame to make the noise.

Decided to pull the trigger and order a U3415W. B&H has it for $949 shipped which seems like a fair price, but they are currently waiting on more stock, so likely will not see it for 10-14 days. Gives me time to cancel I suppose if I find a better deal in that time. Have a buyer for my ZR30W, so guess I'll be gaming on my Asus VN279Q while I wait.

Frys has the 34UM95 on sale this week for $830. Microcenter could not price match it as that price point.

No matter the brand, this is a great size and resolution.

I just got mine from the MS deal and it is making the same ticking rhythmic sound. Not constantly but it is there . Besides the sound it is a stunning display.

The LG 34UM95-P is on sale at the egg for 749.99 right now with code EMCAPKN42 Very tempting for me but I am going to have to hold off until July.

I had to jump on that. In the process of returning a used one I picked for the same price. Bag lunches for me til the return comes through. FYI for anyone confused about the -P variant like I was. It's the exact same screen as the 94 and 95 models. It's just the commercial version of the unit so the warranty is different (ie 3 years for the -P instead of 1 year for the non-P)

Actually, the 34UM94(-P) has the 3-year warranty where the 34UM95(-P) has the 1 year warranty (as displayed on the Newegg pages for each). This was clarified on Massdrop a few months ago when they chose to feature the 94 rather than the 95 that had already been released.

Gosh. I re-read my post and it looked right when I posted, but it's completely wrong. You are totally correct. I claim sleep deprivation. =p

Still a good deal.

Glad I'm not imagining it!

It's a slight annoyance as I love everything else about the monitor. I'm thinking I'll probably wait until they release an A02 revision before contacting dell for an exchange replacement.

Doesn't Dell just ship out refurbished units when you RMA something? I would hate to get a A00 revision with a ton of light bleed

this is my Dell 3415W A01 revision. Is that backlight bleed? Is it glow? should i keep it? Thanks guys.

Pictures always make it look worse than it really is.

Only you can make that decision if it is something you can live with. Mine has a fair bit in the top left corner. I only notice it if the top left of the screen is completely black. So i can live with it. IPS Glow is a trait of IPS panels that appears more so (it seems) with these ultrawide monitors. You can roll the dice if youd like with another panel. Or you can jump to the samsung which is a VA panel if it really bothers you to have any at all.

It does seem that every report of glow/bleed and every photo has it most pronounced at the too-left corner. For it to be that consistent, it seems like it might be a process issue during either panel production or monitor assembly. Which would be good news: once the issue is found, it will be fixed consistently.

Didn't even think about that. Its how my monitor looks.

LG 34UM95 owner.

I use it primarily for content creation. The space management is wonderful, I use the bigger half for a Photoshop and then there's enough space for video tutorials, project files, browser, inbox, reference, etc.

I was going to buy an LX Desk Mount LCD Arm by Ergotron but then have learned that the same exact product rebranded as HP is sold cheaper and looks better in black.

For gaming, I do miss the sheer awesomeness of a 30" screen, while this one is wide, it is physically smaller on the vertical size and lacks that open air window to another world feeling. Although some games, like Bioshock Infinite, work specifically well with this ratio.

There's a nice competitive advantage in multiplayer, especially when you have to check windows and doors when arming M-Com in BFBC2.

This happens but you learn not to see it quickly.

Just bought one for $630 off eBay.. Couldn't resist.

I'll see how it compares with the 120hz oc'd Qnix, and sell either one. :D

Should, might swich back when you start the second display. My catleap worked with an oc with my tv hooked up to hdmi.

That said I haven't considered using my catleap since I got my dell.

Just a heads up, I talked to the LG rep about the warranty on my newly bought 34um94 off eBay.

They do honor warranty even without the authorized dealer invoice, but the date starts from the manufactured date on the back of the monitor.

The 34um94 do have 3-year warranty, but only if it's in an office or business setting (not at home). If the um94 is used at home, it will have the same 1 year warranty.

So I guess eBay purchases/local purchases are okay, but the warranty starts from the manufactured date.

Any other 30" 16:10 expats? Thoughts on 21:9 transition for gaming?

I'm one. I sold my Dell 3007WFP-HC and I thought I would get used the LG 34UM95 but I do actually miss some of the vertical real estate. I'm already contemplating going to either the unreleased Philips BDM4065UC or Seiki 40" Pro.

How long has it been? I normally adjust to new monitors pretty quickly, but it did take me a while to adjust to a 34" 21:9 display after using a 30" 16:10 and a 32" 16:9. Longer than usual...but now I've accustomed to it (I still have the 30" and 32" so it isn't simply a matter of absence/forgetting) and I love it for both gaming and general Windows use.

I too plan on getting the Philips, but part of me worries that it'll be TOO big and my head will be constantly pivoting, lol.

I've had it for about 2 months now and while I like it, I can't see myself keeping it for long. I'm actually turning my head side to side right now with the LG so I can imagine how much more I would have do it with the Philips.
