I see videos on Youtube comparing the 3070 to the 6700, but I thought the 6800 was the direct comparison. I feel hesitant to get the 3070 because it only has 8GB or ram, which will affect its long-term viability.
I thought the 6800 was a 1440p card, but I see people saying the 6700 is. I want 120FPS in new AAA games, I don't care much about Ray Tracing. Is a 3060TI or 6700XT enough for 120Hz 1440p gaming? (on a 3900X).
Or do I need a 6800 or 3070? I don't plan on moving to 4K in the next couple years at least. Right now I am using a RTX 2070 and I feel like its lagging a lot in multiplayer games like Planetside2, StarWars Battlegrounds, and Halo Infinite barely gets over 60FPS and usually less than that.
What do you think? I wanted to wait for the new 4000 series, but it looks like even if it came out, I probably wouldn't get a chance to get one till next year.
Thanks

Any of those should do 1440p/120 well enough, but with the prices falling, I would recommend going for a 6800 XT or even a 6900 XT if you can afford it. I've seen 6900 XT's as low as $729 for example at Micro Center.

I just ordered the RX6800XT for $669 on Amazon. Should last me a two to three years. Got my RTX2070 in Feburary of 2019 and it served me well. Hope this does as well.

You will most likely be limited by the 3900x in some games less than 120fps. Personly 120fps is no magic number for determining if the experienced is good etc. Your system should do very well for most games.

Thanks. I can always get the 5800X3D if I feel limited.
Eye opener for me, 3900X to 5800X3D, 6900 XT. FarCry 6 lows in the 40's and sometime even in the 30s are now way above 60 and this is at 4K. MS Flight simulator average in the mid 30's to around 60 at 4K in large cities with the 5800X3D. Now the 3900x also played well in many other games which used the cores more effectively. It was the lows, which are really noticeable, not so much the average rate. Anyways I am putting that 5800X3D to a new MSI X570 board from the B550 board (3900X will go back in) and changing my systems around using it with VR setup in another room and the 3090 as well. Nice that AM4 has such great options for CPUs.

Well, I got the 6800XT. Huge difference!

Userbenchmark: 3900x

RTX2070:

Gaming 116%

Deskop 99%

Workstation 132%

RX6800XT

Gaming 152%

Desktop 99%

Workstation 175%

Timespy:

RTX2070

Graphics score 9146

CPU Score 11692

RX6800XT

Graphics score 17634

CPU score 11806

If you can nab a Vanilla 6800 for under $500 I would also put that into consideration.

For the price used 3080's are going for. I would also think about that route. Hell even the 2080ti's are getting to be a great buy right now.

I think the 6700XT/6800 or XT is the sweet spot atm. Amazon has the PC Red Devil 6700XT for 449$

I returned the 6800XT and got a 6900XT. It was on a crazy sale on Newegg. That's my card for a couple years. Thinking of upgrading to a 4K 144hz monitor.

To answer your question about the RTX 3070, I got the Sniper Elite 5 game with the RX 6700 deal and just 1080p in High settings it was using 9.703Gb of vram of the 10Gb card, my RTX 3070 could not offer that much vram with an 8Gb cap to even play at 1080p!

That may or may not mean anything, the game may detect available VRam and load assets beyond what is needed for smooth game play. Now when FarCry 6 came out, using the high res textures on the 3080Ti would actually deplete the VRam (12gb) where objects would have low resolution textures. Ran fine on the 3090 without low res textures. Game has since been fixed, must not have been that smart on asset loading when high res textures was selected. Anyways Doom Eternal at 4K maxed out does exceed 8gb VRam for smooth game play.

Doom Eternal needs more than 8gb even at only 1440p if fully maxed out with ray tracing. My 2080 ti had no issues but my 3070 pooped itself cutting the framerate by way more than half and it was not even playable in spots. I had to turn down textures 2 notches for it play like it should.

But yeah there is no way Sniper Elite 5 "needs" more than 8gb at 1440p nevermind at just 1080p.

Doom Eternal caches every texture in the stage on its top two texture settings. There's no visible difference dropping it the two notches as it just streams them in anyway. Doing so results in being able to run 4k maxed otherwise.

Well if you are dropping two notches then you are on the third setting.

One is, in fact, two better than three. That's just science.

Or...

id Software: great at engines; memory utilization priorities hit-or-miss.

I was only testing out a new card by AMD called the RX 6700, you can see the usage at 1080p

You said the game caches every texture at the beginning on its "top two texture settings". Dropping it two notches means its on the third.
Yes... Are you having trouble reading it or something?? On the third setting it begins using streaming as I said.

People say that 8gb is fine for the 3070, but fact of the matter is it will have less longevity because of it.

At least people (hopefully) aren't paying $600 for 3070tis anymore and calling it a "deal". I got a 6800xt for a tad less than that lol.

Just a really weird card tbh.
