Hi,

I'm trying to decide between the two drives in the topic.
They list the Caviar as having a lower seek time, but the Barracuda has a better price/storage ratio and also offers NCQ.
Any thoughts???
Thanks a lot

Michal

NCQ is useless and sometimes detrimental in a desktop environment.

For what? Storage, or performance? If you're playing games off it, or installing Windows on it, spring for the WD. Seagate took a huge hit on performance on the last two generations; we'll see if they make it up on the next one with the acquisition of Maxtor.

I would go with the WD for most reasons, except that Seagate has a 5yr warranty (vs 3yr on WD)

Yeah, it would be mostly for games. So I prefer performance. I thought NCQ would make a difference but then I noticed the seek time is lower on WD so I had a dilemma. So you guys say the WD would be faster than the Barracuda? It also has 20GB more. And as for the warranty, I never really had a problem with hdd so I'm not sure if I care that much for that 2 year difference.
Thx a bunch.
