Is it possible to use three 30" monitors using a HD 7750 on 2560x1600 ? What type of splitter works if I need to put two or three monitors on one displayport?

Display port is supposed to allow daisy-chaining and hubs, but I don't think any company has made a hub or a daisy-chain capable monitor.

I'm guessing he's interested in desktop/trading/DTP work and not necessarily gaming, in which case you may wanna look at the XFX 6770 like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150574

otherwise yea, 7750 for gaming on 3 30"ers is not a good idea. Even running games on a single 30" for occasional gaming will probably not be great with that card, which is why I'd suggest going for that 6770, OR getting somethin with a bit more oomph.

If he is...

I am a developer, lots of windows open if you do the server part for web applications.

Stepping up to 7770 seems to be need if this should work

Honestly, any graphics card since the HD5000 series will work fine for those monitors in 2D.
You don't specifically need the HD7770 if you are on a strict budget.

If the HD 7750 is running on the same TMDS signal sharing system as HD 5xxx and HD 6xxx series... then it is impossible to do 3x independent 2560x1600 without the (mythical) MST hub with an HD 7750. In that case, you will need an HD 7770 with 2x displayport outputs in order to get 3x 30" 2560x1600 independent screens.

I have been googling, but have not found out for sure one way or another whether the HDMI port and dual link DVI ports share 3 TMDS links or 4 TMDS links.

No, it won't work.

Assuming your three monitors are DVI, you need a card with either...

3 Displayports and use 3 Displayport to active dual link DVI adapters

1 dual link DVI output and 2 Displayports and use 2 Displayport to active dual link DVI adapters

Although it's probably possible, you might want a more powerful card so it runs cooler (especially if you intend to do something other than basic word processing).

Both the DisplayPort and the DVI port can output at 2560x1600 resolution. The HDMI port can do 3GHz Fast HDMI but there are no monitors on the market yet which support that.

With a DisplayPort 1.2 MST hub it will be possible to connect two 2560x1600 monitors to a single DP output at some point in the future.

I think the only card without PCIe power connector that can currently drive three 2560x1600 monitors is the PowerColor 6750 Go!Green http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131449
If you can install two low-end cards, then that will be the cheapest solution I guess.
