So I have a new e8400 wolfdale on pre-order, and now I'm picking out my ram.

I'm getting vista 64-bit so I want to go with 4gb. I've narrowed down my choices to:

4gb Corsair XMS2 with DHX for $89 -- seems like a steal at only $89

or

4gb G.skill with the additional speed of ddr 1000 @ $114

I've been a corsair guy for a very long time, but the new wolfdales are supposed to OC like mad and with a native 1333 FSB I'm wondering if the extra cushion is worth it.

Is the 6400 corsair more than enough? I'm licking my lips at the DDR 1000

Don't factor in rebates are part of the final cost until you actually have the rebate check in hand. HIgh probability of happening but still not a guaranteed discount.

Anyway, I say get the DDR2 1000 RAM since it's cheaper than that Corsair set and is guaranteed to run at DDR2 1000 speeds which gives you a 500FSB if you keep the FSB and RAM at a 1:1 ratio.

E8400:
Multi x FSB, RAM Speed = Clock Speed
9 x 333Mhz, DDR2 667 RAM = 3.0Ghz <== Stock Speeds
9 x 400Mhz, DDR2 800 RAM = 3.6Ghz <== Good OC
9 x 450Mhz, DDR2 900 RAM = 4.0Ghz <== Excellent OC
9 x 500Mhz, DDR2 1000 RAM = 4.5Ghz <== Maybe?
