280 or 4870?

I really don't pay "those guys" any attention. They have always seemed a little bias to me....

So do I.
I think they've always favored the underdog in the past (Intel vs AMD) which I agreed because I also think Thunderbird and Athlon XP held great values at that time, I used AMD processor only before Intel's Core 2 Duo came.
But now I'd definitely say NO to their videocard review.

Yes 4870 1 GB is great at $300, but GTX 280 is faster and for some people, $120 premium still worth it to get GTX 280.

Only my 2 cents.

How about a 9800GX2?? If you can still find one for around the same price as GTX 260, it's not a bad choice either. At 1680 x 1050 resolution, it will run Crysis much faster than both GTX 260 and 4870.

Then GTX 260 will be an easy choice. The 9800GX2 my friend, is a benchmark card, not a gaming card.

Well, he specifically said he wanted to play Crysis at 1680 x 1050 resolution and 9800GX2 seems to be optimized well for that.

I would choose the GTX 260 over the 9800GX2 myself for more well rounded performance too.

I don't think so, average framerate doesn't reflect real gameplay sometimes.

I absolutely agree about the 260 > 9800 GX2. Get the 260, no question.

well thanks guys. i picked up an evga 280 ftw from dell. com. pretty good deal, after i sell my 8800gts, the new card comes to around 320 or so with rebate. figure i can step up if needed too. thanks again!!!!
