27" QNIX QX2710 Evolution 2 impressions

I'm really on the fence about this one. The panel and ability to overclock is just amazing, but the build quality on these looks to be highly suspect.
I guess you can have it all at this price....decisions, decisions....

I do not think I'd go as far as to say "highly suspect". In general, anyway. Not like the old Catleap stands, for example. Except for some minor bleed and the middle of the panel being like a millimeter lower than the edges mine is immaculate. And both could be rectified, or at least improved, if I choose to open it.

I don't know, stuff like this just scares me. I've never owned of these Korean LCD's so this is uncharted ground for me

Well that might have been dropped badly in shipping or something and like most bezel-related issues could also likely be fixed by the user. First I've seen of such an issue and certainly not the norm.

Note you can also get a 3 year warranty from Square Trade for $50.

It actually is the norm for these Korean PLS monitors. Mine has the same amount of wiggle room. You'll find a lot of users on OCN have the same issue.

Noticed a few people saying the panel isn't seated firmly within the casing -- would this become a problem if I want to vesa mount this with an arm?

For most , the panel is NOT seated properly in the bezel. Now unless you plan to move your monitor often this really doesn't matter. If you have the monitor on a stand or desk that is easily disturbed than that's something to consider if the monitor wobbling in its bezel is going to bother you.

You can actual secure it if you unscrew the casing and do a little DIY.

Keep something in mind , you are getting a 2560x1440p panel that can the majority of the time hit 120hz without issue for about HALF the cost of other such panels offered here in the states (The Catleap 2b is still $800 I might add). Most of these come without any dead pixels , seriously go research it. You are getting a bargin for who knows how long this PCB will be available in the QX2710 series. They very well may just run out and end up grabbing a PCB that can't overclock at all. These vendors DO NOT give a shit what PCB they cram in these monitors. Its whatever is as cheap as possible that will do the job.

This is part of the risk/reward of Korean A- panels. Most of us are quite happy with the result even if there are downsides. Yes , there are a few , who end up with a mess and a hassle to deal with but the vast majority of customers end up with a pretty amazing panel for $317. Buying a 3 year SquareTrade Warranty (I did and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do to) will ensure that if it does die down the line at least you'll be covered.

All I can really end this with is that its almost without question not going to be the same PCB next time around when they run out of stock on these monitors. If the idea of a 2560x1440p monitor running at 120hz excites you then you have your answer because that's the biggest advantage going for this monitor right now other than price.

Mine came with 0 defective pixels. Only slightly severe backlight bleed on some corners. I also seem to be the only person with a Qnix that can't overclock. Best I can do is 65hz without getting visible scan lines. Still totally worth it for the $317 I paid.

If any of you plan to get the Square Trade warranty I recommend sending an email to them asking about the coverage on the Korean monitors. They emailed me back with a 30% off so I only paid $35 for 3 year coverage.

I just ordered one. Lets say the panel is not seated properly, got any suggestions on exactly how to seat it properly?

I'd try tightening the video cable, and if that doesn't work, then i'd try a different DVI-D cable. I have no idea why the input can be so finicky, but similar issues have happened a lot in the past, including with the Catleap rev.2B

Did you get the picture perfect version? Hulustar is advertising monitors with 0-2 defects for a reasonable price, did you get it from them?

I had no defects, OCs to 115hz(havent tried anything higher). Some backlight bleed at the top.

Ordered the glossy version from hulustar for $317.

Anyone got the matte? Wondering if you can get some close up pictures with it on

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

I got the one you mentioned. The 0-2 Matte version from hulu.

More than a few may have it but you can't say it's the "norm" which implies every single one. I do not have the severe panel play; can't push mine in hardly an eighth of an inch and that's just on one corner that it does in fact move away from the bezel at all. Others apparently do not have any bleed, for example, but I can't say that. So none of these particular problems are really "the norm" across the board, frankly.

Can you guys tell me the total cost that you're paying? Sorry don't really use eBay.

If you live in the States or another country with free trade with S Korea then you pay what is listed, period. (most if not all have free shipping). eBay buyers pay no fees; only sellers.

So which is better, the matte or the glossy version?

At this point it appears that the Matte is the preferred version but it all depends on your personal taste. Both Matte and Glossy on this panel aren't aggressive so its personal preference.

So close to impulse buying; kinda glad I skipped the Overlord preorder period now, but had a few questions.

1) Does SquareTrade really cover imported stuff? I seem to recall there being a lot of debate about this with the original Catleaps.

2) Do I need to look for a US compatible converter/power cable or anything on top of this?

Probably had a couple more that slipped my mind but I'll ask again if they come back around. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Just got mine from DHL. No dead pixels or bright ones, and just a bit of backlight bleed. Other than that, it's just peachy. 120hz right now.

Great reviews thanks all. Plans to upgrade to 3 overclockable, 1440p, 27 inch Korean monitors later this year. Looks like ill have lots to choose from

man I'm so on the fence about getting one of these. Are most of them being reported as having the bezel issue? I'm so close to just getting one.

You can fix the bezel issue with a little DYI. The panel seating I'm not so sure but I bet someone is working on it.

Any idea if these work with the 260 GTX?

It's not listed in the compatibility list but my Catleap (used to) work with it just fine.

Unfortunately, I shipped the Catleap during a house move and now the screen just fades to black within seconds. Tempted to get one of these newer models to replace it.

Well if the Catleap worked I don't see why not. Though there do seem to be a lot of people using these monitors on old GPUs now worth less than half as much as the display. Not everyone is a gamer I know but I still find it curious...

Green-sum has pixel perfect models for $334. If I do pull the trigger thats what I'll go with. It's worth the extra few bucks to me. I'm just still so on the fence though, so much could go south with one of these. What exactly needs to be done to fix the bezel play? I've never tooled around with a monitor before.

Just bit on a matte one, too bad I didn't know about this earlier for the lower price (think it was 289 or 285 from green-sum or dream-seller about a week or two ago, and being priced below 300 drops the warranty pricing from SquareTrade to 42 as well) and before my eBay bucks expired. If it gets to 96Hz I'll be more than happy.

reviews got me thinking of pulling the trigger on this monitor. can anyone chime in on the stand if it is completely removable? i remember reading about the monoprice monitor stands only being partially removable.

also are there any other fees if shipping to cali? never bought anything from korea.

Here is the Nvidia guide (via Youtube video with links) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLPIPuSSkGo

Here is the AMD guide (via Youtube video with links) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJV9IXT5DkQ

These guides are for the Catleap 2B but it doesn't make any difference , the method is exactly the same.

Follow his instructions and you should be good to go. Almost everyone that buys this monitor can at the very least hit 96hz but step it up slowly and you'll be fine.

Happy overclocking.

This seems overly complex, for Nvidia just dl evgapixelclockoc. Small app no install just drag slider and confirm:

Should be just fine , you fall right between what you need. However if you want to overclock I'm not sure how well that would go.

I'm tempted to get a matte version. Most people seem to be getting monitors with one dead/stuck pixel but you get cases like this occasionally. A few dead pixels is ok but I wouldn't know what I would do if I got a monitor like this guy did.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1374065/korean-qnix-qx2710-evolution-ll-27-2560x1440-matte-samsung-pls-panel/1160#post_19881928

Its a risk always with these Korean monitors. Even on the more expensive versions with better stands , bezels and higher quality PCB's you are taking a risk that something COULD happen.

Most people have good experiences with these Korean sellers if something goes wrong and I've seen them bend over backwards to work out issues to keep their profile full of praise.

But you must keep in mind you are buying , technically , a substandard panel that did not pass Apple's/Samsung's/Whoever else's strict requirements (similar standards I would imagine for most panel manufacturers) and thus these are considered by that standard to be of lesser quality. It just turns out that one or two dead pixels on a 1440p monitor (as long as they are not in the dead center and stuck in white) are VERY tolerable for most people. I can imagine that the vast majority of people don't often spot dead pixels even if they are present (excluding folks like us who are enthusiasts). Top that off with a PCB that can overclock like we've never seen before and you have yourself an incredible value at $317 US.

So barring that in mind , many people in this very thread have had great experiences buying the QNIX QX2710 so that should provide you some confidence.

Hm, I've blacklight bleeding in the upper right corner and lower left corner.

What's the best way to correct it? Should I even correct it or send it back? I can't see any dead pixels and it seems to clock very well.
