I have been collecting parts for a Ryzen system. Getting things at discount when I can.
Currently have an MSI B450 A-Pro, 16gb of Gskill Flare X 3200 and a Fractal Design Focus G in gunmetal grey ( dark themed computer, few white lights I think, nothing more )

Ryzen 3600 worth the extra $66 with all of it's current compatibility issues or should I just grab a 2600 or X and forget about it for now? I've been kind of just waiting for the platform to mature and figure I can deal hunt a bit. But I do want a new computer.

I have yet to have a problem with 2600X or 3600X setup on MSI x470 gaming plus.I am only one person.

For anyone interested.I say AMD gave what they said was the improvement.Best answer I can give
2600X 4350Mhz 1501/181 Cinbench
vs
3600X 4350Mhz 1731/202 Cinbench

Multi
1731-1501=230 difference
230/1501=0.15323117921 x 100 = 15.3% difference

Single
202-181=21 difference
21/181=0.11602209944 x 100= 11.6% difference

plain 3600 will last the longest ,better single thread perfromance and does quite well at every thing else.Yes there are bugs but what new platform does not have these teething pains

hi i recently had to made the same decision. i went with the 2600 plain and i think that was the right choice. and $66 is a lot of money better spend toward the video card and you havent listed it yet so i assume you are still looking. $66 dollars like thats almost the difference between a 5700 and 5700XT.

go with the 2600 i think. they are getting so cheap you will be the winner. obv the 3600 is faster but there is a slight premium over the performance gain just because its newer. do the 2600 and i will welcome you into the club of us humble 1080p 100fps multiplayer 1440p 40ish fps single player gamers haha

Forgot to mention, I have a GTX 1070 coming from my current X58 computer and I have a 60hz 1080p panel. Prosessor, waiting on a deal for a power supply ( EVGA 500 BQ as a fallback ) and I'll grab a cheaper SSD, but they are all I lack.

The real question is.... 3600 or 2700.

I am going to pick something up myself next week. leaning 3600... but where I am anyway a 2700 right now saves me 30 bucks. Might flip a coin. I joke probably get a 3600.

I'd say that with the most recent AGESA code release, a 3600x (you are talking about the x or just the regular 3600?) Is the better buy for $66. You will see a solid improvement in avg frames, but most importantly in frame times.

I have owned a [email protected], a [email protected], and now a 3700X (currently just at stock clocks since EK is taking forever to get my 5700xt block out). The 3700x is extremely smooth, and posts better frame times with my old VII I tested it with before I moved to a 5700XT.

Id argue that if you do not have a free/G-sync LCD, then the 3600 is an even better buy since it will offer you a better experience in terms of "smoothness" thanks to the frame times.

Just the ho hum 3600, and I'll pair it with a larger cooler so it will run like an X though. It's $133 for a 2600 and $199 for a 3600.

I'm getting 160fps in blackout @ 1440p
CPU isn't everything.
Put the savings towards a better GPU and upgrade the 3600 next year when they are $100.

From what I have read, the parts you already have are good. I say go with the 3600.

Doesn't matter then, you're monitor limited. Or do you plan on upgrading / switching to a faster monitor?

Do you have another CPU to update your Bios? That could be an issue. Right now I think you can find a Ryzen 2700 (8core) for the same prices as the 3600 (6 core) or even less.

If you have the use case for the extra cores, plop in an 8 core 2700 for less, skip the teething issues, and the bios upgrade you are going to need.

Otherwise get one of the six cores.

It's a 2013 era Syncmaster B2230 so it's bound to need replaced at some point.

I carefully chose the MSI B450 A pro as it has flashback+ no cpu bios flashback capability. However I've also been considering grabbing an R3 1200 for $55 as it's as fast as a W3680 as far as IPC and gaming, and getting the system up and running and switching when the Bios situation gets settled

So is a Ryzen 3 1200 a good stop gap? The IPC is marginally better than my W3680 for $60 brand new. It could also later replace an RX570/ W3565 sister system to my main system that is getting replaced ( T3500, 12gb of ram )

I have been considering just building a simple APU system with a 2200G. Lets me sit out CPU/GPU wars for while longer, but I have the "luxury" of having system so old that an APU is a significant CPU and GPU upgrade. :)

R3 2200G is the better choice, if you can get it for the same price.

honestly if this is primarily a budget gaming build go with the 2600, overclock it and enjoy it.. the cpu will do just fine in your configuration. by the time it becomes a hindrance the 3600 or 3700x will be dirt cheap and an easy swap in.

I'm kind of considering the 2700. I don't 'need' the extra cores, but 20% faster is still much faster than I have and it winds up $20 cheaper than a 3600

Hmm. after thinking a bit and looking up the price of a 3900x, I think I'll just get a 1200 as a holdover/ bios updater for a month or so, and then just grab a 3900X. I did not realize they were that cheap. That should keep my system from needing an upgrade for a while at a ~250 premium since even the 1070 can go 1440P without any issue at all. This way I can just use the Prism cooler which is saving $50 on a decent cooler... 3800x if I can't get a 3900x but in that time I expect to grab one... If Ryzen Zen 2 becomes something of the next X58 it will be with me for a long time and will last 5 years in any case with probably a graphics card upgrade before that.

The 2600x is fine man...and 4.2 is still fine and plenty...hold off in case I want get the 3600x...we'll dog out the 7700k and interleaving board.

Get the 3600 and call it a day. Don't waste your money on on the 3600X. Just make sure you have a decent CPU cooler so you can hit decent boost speeds. Run IF and mem speeds at 1:1 and good for DDR 3200 and tight timings and compare 3500-3567(don't do 3600 as some ppl report power jumps quite a bit and lowers your boost speeds)

I'm actually mulling over a 3700x or 3900x at this point, and use the included Prism cooler since it's good enough. 3900x is complete overkill but the 3700x I know wouldn't be a bad idea. I do more than game. I can afford either of them

For pure gaming either are Overkill. If you do content creation then get the 3700x. I still think your gonna want an aftermarket cooler. Solid 40$-50$ cooler+3600 is hard to beat for a general/gaming rig

I plan to see how hot the prism will get, or if I can live with it, but relative terms a cooler is small money to replace later. Since I have a W3680 right now, the 3600 would be a modern day direct replacement effecting only the IPC ( which is a 50% gain ). But the jump is only $250 to the current top of the line 3900x, where as it's a $640 jump from the 9700K vs the 9920X ontop of having to use a more expensive motherboard for Intel. At that point why not.

What ever floats your boat. How bout this get the 3700x or 3800x and we can split the savings and you can PayPal me my haft

I will honestly probably go with the 3700x. It's actually available all the time, it's pretty much the same as the 3800x and only $130 more than 3600. I have a car that I don't need for sale and if it sells this week I'll go over the top with the 3900X but otherwise I'm just going 3700X

I need at least 60 frames per second in Minesweeper, and if I could dual boot it with windows 3.1 that would be cool too

I just ordered a 2600X from SuperBiiz. Was $136 since they had a discount. So 2600x for 2600 price. I want a 3900X but want something now. 1200 was too cheap, 3600 would be settling, so I'll rock a 2600x on the stock Spire cooler while waiting for a 3900x/ waiting for the optimizations.

Also grabbed a 240gb Kingston A400 M.2 so I'm good for a boot drive without taking up a drive bay.

Wanna cry payed 133 for my 2600 non x. All core at 4.2 under corsair water cooler. Have not one regret with my purchase after playing around with 3600 and 2700 models. Cheers

Yeah, I know Microcenter is selling the 2600 in the $110 range depending on how/ if you bundle it.. But I'm miles from the only Microcenter in Ny. Going rate for online is $133 on places like Newegg and Amazon but both also tax NY.. I got away tax free from Superbiiz ontop of the discount.
I was going to use the same $10 discount on a 3600 along with tax free but decided to wait on a 3000 series.

All in all, this build came out under $500. Some of the parts in the list are now more expensive than my purchase price, and would be a good ~$830 build with a brand new graphics card and 1tb or so of storage ( my graphics and main storage are getting re purposed )
