Ok so a couple of those list items are untrue but many of them are in fact true; However 80% of the list items have nothing to do with video games. for example women also get sexually propositioned when they go to bars and clubs, women who engage in typically male sports (Danica Patrick for example) constantly have their abilities questioned and are frequently accused of engaging in those activities just to participate.

The reality is that the issues being described in this list are issues with society as a whole not with video games. men sexually objectify women they always have and most likely always will; and to be frank there's really nothing wrong with it as long as the objectification doesn't turn in to harassment. When I see an attractive woman I undress her with my eyes I stare at her body and so forth and you know what that's fine no one gets hurt; and I have never once complained about a women sexualizing or objectifying me. It does not happen very often but still the rare times that it does don't bug me

The reality is the people are human we are wired for sex and to think about sex and we can't turn it off the only difference and again this is a societal issue is that men from an early age are allowed even encouraged to express their sexuality and women are not ( and thus are more uncomfortable being sexualized) for example I have in fact had a random internet woman ask me to webcam with her (yes it happened only once every in 2 decades of online gaming but still) and despite the fact that I did not know her and her interest was purely sexual I was not offended and I didn't feel victimized in fact I was flattered I politely declined and that was the end of it.

All that having been said one issue that this video touches on that is real is the harassment having played online games for a very long time and I have seen women harassed and denigrated in ways that they never would have been if they were male. However that harassment has and I really want to emphasize this as it is my main issue with this list !!!NOTHING TO DO WITH VIDEO GAMES!!! none of the women I speak about were harassed by video games none of them were bullied by video games or threatened by video games. No they were all harassed by PEOPLE; And that is what really irritates me about this list World of Warcraft has never asked a girl to send nude pics every day for a month strait despite being told no and asked to please go away Call of Duty has never told a girl to stop playing and go back to making sandwiches, people playing those games sure have but that is an issue with the people not with the games just like 80+% of the things on this list.

I didn't see much wrong with the video. Seemed kinda spot on to me. I don't have issues with respecting others when I game. By the same token I like to cheer a win with some choice words and take someone winning in stride.

As far as women receiving propositions for sexual favors in voice chat it has been a big issue for me as a GM for a number one guild before on a server in the PvP MMO Aion. I solved that quickly by giving a couple of the women praise in voice chat and posting their DPS numbers on our website. BTW they were some of the best tanks, DPS, and healers we had. Our guild would swarm you for weeks if you managed to kill one of our members out in the world. Even though everyone knew which of our players were female, they didn't F with them our they would have to deal with all of us. And that stance applied to voice chat also.

Here is the leader of one of our sister Legions helping take a fort. Yes, Mewsette was godlike in the game. She would transform into a deity at forts to help us take them. Her transformation always ended in us taking the fort because we wouldn't her to die. Yes, it demoralized the opposite faction as we would post our voice chat logs from raids and they would hear this mature Asian female effusing about stomping them into a mud hole. Which she would do over and over for hours on in with glee.

I think that people just have to learn to respect one another when online. I squashed the racism, hate, and sexism while running the number one guild on my server. Everybody hated us because we took all of the resources and gear from outdoor bosses on the server. But they all respected us as individuals for our talents and collectively as a well run group.

That's what is missing in many of the poorly run guilds I've been in over the years. This was true especially in World of Warcraft. I've been in some that we had to stop the raid and kick someone because they kept posting dick pics in TeamSpeak when they would hear a female voice. The GM would side with the guy because the rule of thumb is that girls can't play and we needed all of the men for serious raiding.

Once again to prove a point, I took all of the castaway female gamers, along with some cool guys, and formed a raiding group. Some of the ladies were programmers, ran companies, grandmothers, disabled, etc. One of our High Warlords was a female and she wasn't allowed to raid with the guys without harassment. We defeated all of the hardmode content weeks before the "hardcore" groups within the guild were able to get past the second boss.

We had all of the achievements and were called hacks and worse because it was supposedly impossible to do on our RP server. What we did was show up on time, pay attention to detail, and made everyone accountable for their actions. That's it. Even in winning, we were ostracized by the so called elite because of the females in the group. So we ended up leaving the guild and finding other games to play. Which was a really F'ed situation.

So I personally don't take offense to the video. I think that having females represented in gaming is a good thing. I don't think every title should appeal to everyone just as every movie has it's own audience. But their should be enough varied content that there is something for everyone to choose from. I can't wait for the day when nobody notices any of these "injustices" because gaming has evolved like the movie industry where there is something for everyone.

Sounds to me like you didn't put together a bunch of women that were ostracized because they were women, but because they were toxic. The kind of people that every guild has dealt with in the past. That is a great story however like the video in the OP you are missing the point those women were harassed by people not by video games. I have played wow for almost a decade now and the game is one of the most inclusive games around the people that play it are not but that has nothing to do with video games. WOW did not harras those women people did and those same people would have harrased them in any other venue and that is really I think that is what has most gamers upset. the fact that games thate we lovew are being dragged into a debate that has nothing to do with them as many people here have said people are assholes, if you want too fix that great my god please fix it ill help you but leave video games out of it. The other problem is that they ignore that the alternative option for guys isn't "be happy and get exactly what you want without any problems or effort," but rather more like "you are swimming in a sea of assholes too, your problems will just be slightly different than the female gamers."

We could go to a car oriented form and find women talking about going to garages and seeing pin-up girls and men joking about how stupid they are around cars. They could say something like, I like to race cars and work on cars and I don't like those comments. It wouldn't make sense to conflate that concern with "how does this have anything to do with cars?" right? It would just be the venue the people are experiencing the issue, not that they are claiming it's directly related to racing or working on cars.

When it comes to the internet, however, the issue is certainly exacerbated by the anonymity afforded to netizens. I'm not sure how you can ignore that part of the equation.

Identity politics promotes the identification of victims and oppressors not on an individual basis, but based on membership in various groups. It asserts my cousin who had his hand crushed working in a mine is an oppressor while Oprah and the Obama daughters are "oppressed".

You don't get to opt in or out of identity politics because your individual rights, beliefs and achievements are nothing compared to the "cause". Women and Minorities who lean right are not free thinking individuals or merely dissidents, they are "traitors" to their gender/race.

Identity politics is quite literally and concretely the politics of judging people by the color of their skin instead of the content of their character.

All I am saying is that we live in a country where women are not considered property, women have the right to vote, they don't get stoned to death for wearing revealing clothing, they aren't beheaded or sentenced to life in prison for working or trying to get an education.
