Yes, another one of these threads. I just can't decide on what to choose. My budget is $200-250 for a 24 port, used or new. I would pay extra for 48 ports.

My priorities, in no particular order, are:
  1. Very light use, I will only ever use about 20-25% of the 24Gbps available
  2. Quiet
  3. Rackmountable
  4. Command line interface
  5. VLANs, link aggregation, SNMP
  6. PoE is optional

HP 1810-24G v2- Either you love them or you hate them. Fanless is good, but no CLI
HP 1910-24G- Same price as the 1810 little brother, but has somewhat of a CLI. Has a fan.
Routerboard CRS125-24G-1S-RM- I love the idea of the open source OS, but I don't know much about the hardware

1910. Has STP, static routing, and ACLs on top of what the 1810 has.

Routerboard as a switch, barf. As a router they are great. Their switching features are wonky to configure and frankly you'll be much better off with an actual switch.

HP 1810-24G has an extremely low power usage

As does the Zyxel 1910

Zyxel only has a 2 year warranty though...

I'm leaning towards the HP 1910-24G, I'll make a purchase tomorrow

Look what I found! I never saw anyone post this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_fanless_layer_2_switches. This can be very helpful to people that have the same question as me.

Judging by that chart, I made a decision to purchase a Zyxel 1910 over the HP 1910 because it has the same features plus power efficiency and fanlessness, and a better web GUI, while being the same price (~$225). The Cisco SG300-28 is $100 more and I just couldn't justify it, although I will miss having a good CLI.
