Are we closing the production gap between us and Team China? I'm looking at about a 30k PPD gap. If we close that, we keep our first place position, right? That's pretty exciting. I've ramped up a couple machines from 50% to 75% in an effort to help out. I'm almost double my normal daily production. Anyone else got some quad-cores out there that could heat up their basement? We need just a bit more per day and we can make it!

Ya so I decided to join up while its cold out, got to say, not enjoying the windows client.
Ran overnight, 100% cpu... cool, look at it 24 hours later, said something about waiting for something (cpu usage was still at 100%), check out the options...
By default run at 60%... what the... change it to 100%, no longer says waiting, changes to running. But now only using 50% cpu usage.
Play around with it some more, see that it could use the gpu, logged into my account, turned on some options so that those "packets?" are allowed.
Restart the client, usage back to 100% progress bar jumps from 9% to over 50%, guessing got de-synced from the backend?

World Community Grid doesn't use GPUs right now anyway. Although that 60% CPU time thing is rather annoying. I think it's just the WCG client, if you get the official BOINC client it's set to 100% I think. (or vise versa)

That's ok EVGA being 2nd, I know you will enjoy holding down 3rd place!
And if you stay ahead of that team who's name no one can pronounce, you may move up to league 1 after next year

shots right back at ya.

Your little pee-shooter don't phase me.

Ah, you must mean Sissy Toured a Disaster (area), only you have to pretend your mouth is filled with chewing tobacco, and say, "Sissy-tour-a-dastra."

:D

LOL!!!!!!!

Nah, I just spun it down while there was no event. I'll bring it back up now.

Welcome back then! This event ends on the 25th.

Added couple of extra machines to work =)..

Heck yes!

30k PPD doesn't seem like a lot, but that's 30k BOINC points. Which is 210k WCG points. A single, modern quad core does around 20 - 35k PPD WCG. So we would quiet a few, but it's still possible. Just gotta get them fired up!

However, that's 30k mid-day stats update. The real figure is gonna be closer to 200k BOINC points which is close to 1.4M WCG points. At least that's what it was the other day. Lower than a few days ago when it was a little over 2M PPD. So we are closing the gap, but it needs to happen quickly. Once they get ahead of us I don't think we will ever have the power to get it back.

I just fired up another 4 cores, 8 threads. I'm just about tapped out, though, and my office is getting close to 90 degrees. I don't think I can run any more without breaking my air conditioner.

I still have 3 quads I'm trying to make some room for but it may be a few days before I get the chance to do it. they are all older quads. 2 are X3430 and 1 is a Q6600 I believe.

I wish I had more space, as I have a dual E5420 rack server that could be fired up too. However, that will not happen anytime soon. Way too much space needed for it. It currently has like 26 HDD's in it...lol.

Thanks to Skillz for hounding me into putting my new and mildly OC'd Ryzen 1600 online -- I'll at least bring it up to playing like a stock 1600x tonight -- was sitting at 49 c at 100% on 3.4 GHz last night using the stock cooler. I mean, we're running the furnace at home nowadays so how the heat is generated is fungible, right?

Some of y'alls outputs are INSANE.

Im not a big DCr persay but I am running my I5-8600K coffee lake and my Xeon E5-1620 right now at the same time. I hope they are turning out at least some numbers to advance research and our teams standing.

But first I am in it for the research to solve problems and disease and second I am in it for our team score haha

look at this way, the more you help the team, the more you are contributing to research for diseases... so it's a good idea to be competitive as overall you are doing more with the competitive spirit.. =) and that's exactly how I became addicted, lol I blame Skills for that.

Sadly I can not put all my machines to help with BOINC because they are already working rendering for the company, so even with BOINC installed it will not do anything for the project.

We need some front page coverage so I can pull in some more recruits.

lol, now now, you both have way too many recruits.

73 recruits is not enough. We need about 150 more members to compete against Team China or a handful of big hitters to join up.

Hey guys how's it going? Just noticed this. Any project we should focus on more? I am just running mip trying to get a 10yr badge on that one. Should we run zika?

I get more points running Zika on my boxes. Some get more points running OET on their boxes. I'm not sure as YMMV

Small sampling statistics of less than 1 day (so things waiting for validation are a big percentage of my overall work), but points-per-run-time winners for me are MCM and MIP. I have all projects checked though for now.

(I think I mentioned this, but I'm a postdoc in a cancer research center, so this stuff is actually in my greater realm, but nothing related to what I actually work on)

I can tell you that MCM is the lowest scoring project.

Well i just turned my 6 threads back on :D trying a slight reduction in my cpu oc.
The Ryzen 7 and MB i ordered arrived yesterday. My ram is somewhere between NJ and Vancouver, expected dec 12 delivery, a full week later later :( when does this contest end?

You could try running only OpenZika, it might give you a small boost in points, but most projects other than MCM score really close to each other.

My advice is that if you decide to run one project to make sure to tick the box that says send work from other subprojects if work not available. WCG only loads a certain amount of work of each sub project. So, if there is a large pull of one sub project, you may have cold cores for a few minutes/hours...

For me OET under linux gives the best PPD during the birthday challenge.

If you want to gain 10% (very conservative) or even more in output (ymmv), use the bunkering technique as outlined in the [H]DC strategy forum. However this is more involved and certainly not suitable if you have many rigs and don't have the time to do it. Just my one cent.

Looking at the stats, we need to produce 10% more from our current daily output to be in line with #1 team.

ok got my new ups up and running.. so there shouldn't be any issues if/when we actually start getting snow here. i'm actually amazed how little power this r5 1600 uses at full load.. router, modem, 1 of 3 monitors and pc on the battery portion of the UPS is only pulling 180w full load(117 idle). now that i know that i'll have zero issues converting this to a dedicated DC system once the ryzen refreshes are released. just as a comparison the shitty florescent lights in my room currently use more power than this computer.. dafuq o_O

oh one last thing.. i friggin hate you skillz for making me get back into DC'ing, i was enjoying my 30 dollar electricity bills after i finally stopped a few years ago..

As of the latest free-dc stats update we are pulling ahead of Team China's daily output.

Now if only we can hold onto this slight daily bump until the 25th we will take home first place!

While we are seriously battling with Team China, we have lots of new and returned [H] crunchers.

Share a pic of your crunching rigs here. The good, ugly and bad-ass looking are most welcome. May inspire more [H]ordes to join in for the good cause.

My apartment was chilly last night so I make an account for WCG and started running BOINC. I’m signed up for Team HardOCP ([H]sonyman) and see points getting assigned to me but nothing when I check my name under the team heading. Is this normal? Does it take time for points to be assigned to the team?

Yes, points are updated twice a day at about 7pm and 7am PST. So anywhere from 7 to 8am/PM should be updated and show your results.

You can look on free-dc stats in a couple hours. You should show up there soon.

Edit
Here you are

I must admit the boost from seeing [H] beat Team China is making it easier for me to accept the room heating up more. So ive just got a 4690k, overclocked to 4.4 Ghz, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 770, ive set it to use all cores and at max speed (i think), 100 GB of hard drive space, and 75% of my RAM, the GPU is set to accept work, anything else I can do to max my contribution?

don't turn off your machine it's more important than anything else.. BOINC doesn't use GPU and doesn't take that much of HDD space, for me it just use about 1.32GB even if I set to use as much as 50GB..

ah.. =D welcome..

BOINC does use GPUs. World Community Grid, at this time, does not.

It's all good.

If anyone with GPUs does want to help the team we have plenty of projects that the team can use help in with the www.formula-boinc.com race that ends at the end of this month.

One project we are trying to get 1st in is Einstein@Home. Link can be found here:
https://einsteinathome.org/

Team page is here:
https://einsteinathome.org/community/teams/173449

Just make SURE you tell Einstein@Home NOT to use CPUs. (It will dedicated one per GPU, that's required)
https://einsteinathome.org/account/prefs/project
Make sure "USE CPU" is set to NO.
