2011: THE Greatest Year in gaming of all time

It'll be the greatest year in gaming history that the most recent generation of gamers will remember.

Thank god I was introduced to PC Gaming at a young age.
 
2 games I was really looking forward to this year have already disappointed me.

Dragon Age 2 was a must buy, but after the demo I wouldn't touch it with a shitty stick.

Dead Space 2 was loads of fun at first but ultimately I tired of it fast.

I'm hanging on The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 3, Portal 2 and Battlefield 3 being good to save the day, or year for that matter.

Is STALKER 2 out this year?

I don't think the greatest year in gaming is packed with sequels, some level of improvement on old beloved games is good but seeing little in the way of new IP these days, which is a shame.
 
I thought DS2 was great and dragon age i rly didn't even like the first one.

BF3 looks pretty sweet as far as shooters tho, I just hope my pc can handle it. I wish they would release some system requirements for it.

Portal 2 will be a lot of fun I can almost guarantee it, and with one purchase I'll be able to play it on both my ps3 and pc (pretty sweet). Also Valve is releasing another game this year; DotA 2 which is as big for dota fanboys as SC2 was for starcraft fanboys. I think the sales figures for that game will generate a lot of buzz and rly open up the genre to people who have never heard of it. Just like counter strike source did. It did start as just a mod after all.

I haven't played the demo yet. I'm curious what made you dislike it so much?
 
I was just talking to my brother about this year's AAA list.
It'll be the greatest gaming year since 2008, that when a lot of today sequel title were first released.
And I believe Bioware alone is releasing 3 AAA title. That's insane!
 
I take back what I said

Xenogears came out on the PSN store this year, therefore, making this one of THE greatest years in gaming of all time.

Now those of you unfortunate souls who haven't played or don't own this game, can buy it on the PSN store and find out why this game has been my personal game of the year for the last 13 years in a row.

I'm another that agrees with 98, but I'm a big Baldur's Gate II fan.

I was always a Quake II guy myself. Didn't like Quake 3 as much. But still better than all these slower-moving, magically-healing-on-your-own-by-sitting-still style games that are popular now.

Don't get me wrong - I loved Gears 1 multiplayer...but everyone seems to think they need to ape Halo's methodology. I'd love a shooter with health and armor pickups again.

AMEN!!!! Can't wait for good tournament-style shooters to make a comeback. The best mechanic against camping = running around to pick up shit.

speaking of which, i think it's time to install quake 4 again!
 
Yeah it is shaping up to be a good one but I expect Zelda will be delayed and I would not be surprised if BF3 gets delayed as well.

but if you are a JRPG nut (or for a good deal of games, Sega Saturn owner), damn it's hard to top '97:
