I have a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070 that I bought because it was cheap last year. Just over $200 shipped. My current box, it's actually one of the bottlenecks being it's a R5 3600 system. I don't game nearly enough to justify more than $200, and I could buy a used 2080 TI right now if I really wanted to. it would just be really, really stupid.. I game at 1080P 60hz but I might go 1440P with a new monitor soon. I game only once in a while really. Is there a $200 card now that will be a worthwhile jump? A monitor might better come first but I don't want to let old faithful go into retirement just yet. It's a Syncmaster B2230 I've had for 7 years

Over your 1070, there is not a $200 option that will provide you with what you are looking for currently. It's upgrade season so let the new lines fleshout so performance will increase at all price points.

1070 is a great 1080p and decent 1440p card. Nothing under $300 new will replace it. Now if you don't mind pre-owned... then sell your 1070 for $150 and you can probably get a 1080ti or a 2070 for $350.

But honestly, the 1070 is a great card as long as you're not chasing 4K. You need a 1080ti or better for that.

Wait for actual shipping 30x0 gpus to drop a 2070S or 2060S I to your price range....or save some more $ and get a 3060.

Unless you get lucky in the used market, the 1070 is still a fantastic card for $200 at 1440p or lower, as has been stated. You're gonna have a really hard time finding better.

I think 2070 is where I want to be, and if they come down to the $350 range I'll snag one.. That would give me leverage for a while since I like to game with maxed settings

Is a Used 1070 really worth $150? I still have my 1060 6gb I keep as a spare

A month ago a used 1070 was still $200
No you can’t get more performance for $200 used

Maybe see what 3060 costs when announced.

I'm still rocking a 1070 and game at 1440p. I was saving up my coins to get a shiney new 3080, but getting into a car accident this past June took those. Started saving my coins again in hopes to snag a deal on a 2080ti. If I turn in my empties for more coins, I may just be able to reach for that 3080.

You might be able to snag a used 5700 non xt for $200. They are pretty simple to flash to the XT bios and it will give you within ~3% of an actual XT.

If you can sell your 1070 and add that to the $200, you'll be able to get the next step up and some meaningful gains

Good thoughts on this all. I would like to add that 30% or more is a good rule of thumb when upgrading. Coming off a 1070 at minimum the 2070 or 2060 super starts to make tangible gains. It gets better from there of course.

I like the GPU comparison chart from TPU for quick checks on this kind of thing. They use 1080p. These numbers can be loose but it gives a nice idea of what to expect. All you need to do is look at what you can get your hands on for the best price.

ive seen used 1080ti's for $285 on rare occasion. I do think they will be very cheap once 3060/3070 are in stock in decent numbers.

I'll have to see how things go with the prices. A $285 1080TI would be sweet. BUT, Watchdogs Legion is on my radar and I might want RTX. Since my framerate is limited to 60 FPS it might not be far off

I also think you are either going to be looking at a 3060 when launched, or start shopping hard for a used 2070 super. The 2070 super is still a fairly new card and you might be able to snag one in the $250 range around the time the 3070 drops.

The 1070 is still a venerable card. Beating it won't be easy. It's on par with or slighter faster than a 1660 Super which is a $230 card.

You need a big gain, not just a bump to make getting rid of that very solid card worthwhile.

In the meantime, update your drivers, and try low latency mode.
See if you feel anything different in a Reflex supported game.

I see the 5700 XT is neck and neck with the 2070 Super and it's $390 brand new for an MSI Mech

I have seen Vega 56 cards go for under $200, but only if you like tweaking with the voltages and power tables (and can deal with the power draw). It will provide a nice performance bump over the 1070. Gamer's Nexus and Hardware Unboxed have a couple of comparative videos.

For 1080p and 60Hz 1070 is enough I think.
It even still handle 1440p in medium quality game quite nicely.

nowadays upgrading VGA card and monitor must be in one package, it is not worthy to buy a 2080ti, if you only game at 1080p 60hz monitor

1070 is fine for 1440p if your not pushing high refresh rates or insane quality. Just hold out till something dramatically better comes along. I run 3600x and 1070 and get 90fps in most games I play at 1440p.

Yes. Used or not, it destroys any $150 option on the market at 1080P/2K. Most will not sell one under 175 even.

Will likely settle at the $200 mark or perhaps a bit lower, long term.

Yep, you're not going to see much gain unless youre going up to the 1080ti or 2070. Since you say you don't game as much I would just stick with the 1070 unless you find a deal on a 1080ti

if you were choosing between buying either card then maybe but personally i'd still take the 1070 over the vega 56 (i own both cards and use the vega 56 in my daily rig). going from a 1070 to a vega 56 is pretty much a side grade and not worth it.
