Being as the 670FTW cards were pretty much 680s in performance that would mean 2 are still faster than a single 780ti, according to much combings of benchmark reviews trying to compare 680s to 780s.

What say you all? Would I lose performance going to a single 780ti?

What is a safe, quiet, guaranteed OC on say an eVGA 780ti SC?

An overclocked 780ti matches the GTX 690. That, IMO, makes the decision easy - the reference GTX 670 was a freaking noisy card (it has a super cheap cooler) so I personally would much prefer a quieter 780ti for similar performance and better acoustics.

Case in point: when you overclock the 780ti you'll get similar performance:

Unless you are just getting an insanely good deal on the 670s, i'd go with the 780ti.

I already own the 2 670FTWs and the FTWs have the way better/quieter 680 PCB/coolers on them.

Ah, I see. I wasn't aware of that. I don't think there is a compelling reason to go with 780ti then unless you're running at a resolution higher than 1080p - if you're planning on upgrading your screens anytime soon, the 780ti makes sense for more VRAM. Otherwise, you're really not gaining anything whatsoever in terms of performance, it will be about the same.

The 780ti overclocks really well, but it still won't be a performance upgrade.

That said, you should also consider re-sale value of the 670 cards - that will lower much quicker than it would with the 780ti. 780ti could be a better long term proposition if you're planning on upgrading your resolution, and maintaining high resale value on your cards (670s are depreciating much faster than the 780ti's).

Hmmm. I game at 2560x1600, so the extra VRAM would be nice. Already hitting the 2GB limit in BF4...
I think processing would be a wash, but memory might help.

A 780 Ti when overclocked will be faster than a GTX 670 SLi setup. Atleast from the Valley benches it seems it will be faster.

Sorry but 2x 670 GTX Sli is much faster than a single 780ti, assuming you have a decent overclocked processor and high voltage motherboard capable of running 2x 670 Sli to their max. If you are a novice, meaning you don't overclock or over-volt, then I would suggest getting 1x 780ti. My 2x Evga 670 GTX FTW Sli kills 1x 780ti in pretty much everything. Although I run a [email protected] and both my 670 FTWs are running huge overclocks of 1319mhz core/3707mhz memory/145% pwr target. 780ti are about 900 points behind me in Firestrike, 3Dmark11 and 10-15 fps slower in most games.

Benchmark programs don't reflect real-world performance. Multi-GPU setups might score higher because of the raw calculating power that goes with the extra silicon but actual scaling in games will seldom match that.

xoleras linked the tests above; we can see that they're fairly close -- with the overclocked FTW 670s being at 680 level, the 690 ia good stand-in for comparison.

Yup, that's about it. At 1080p, you would probably never notice the difference. But at 1600p and higher settings, you'll probably see the 780 Ti pull away a bit.

All in all, unless you can make the switch for a small amount of money, you're probably better off sticking with what you have at least until big Maxwell hits.

Yeah I would want the 4Gb Vram from my 670 Ftw sli over the lesser 780ti's 3Gb. Especially since a second 780ti only halts a 8% increase ovet 1, no reason to buy those cards. With 880's 30 days away as well.

I have 2 gigabyte 670s with a decent OC and I'm waiting for the next round of cards to upgrade.
The 780ti may be a hair faster, but even my 670s do fine at 1440. They run cool and quiet.

The only real thing that's pushing me to even consider upgrading is sli issues.

So each of your cards are 4gb?

From a vram point of view, I'd sell them and get the 780ti. Performance wise they are similar.
From a resale value, I'd sell the 670's now before its too late considering Maxwell will arrive soon. Prices could have already dropped by now.
I game at 2560x1600 also and am hitting a vram wall regularly. However, I'm skipping the 780 generation and will most likely get a high capacity 880 if it's worth it, otherwise pick up some 780ti's on the cheap.

Your sig just says "FTW," meaning you have a 2GB framebuffer. The "FTW+" versions had 4GB of VRAM. Each card alternates frame rendering in SLI, meaning each frame only has access to the memory of one card.

I am in the same boat.

I have 2x670s and decided to move over to a 780ti classified. It's pretty much a sidegrade, but I have more vram and no SLI to worry too much about.

If you've got the 670 FTWs, it's pointless to go to a 780Ti unless whatever you're playing doesn't scale well via SLI or needs the VRAM. 3GB really isn't enough of an improvement anyway, especially if you're going with a 4k or even 1440p monitor for some games.

It looks like it will also be semi-pointless to go 980 from a performance perspective (although a 980 would use half the power and be much quieter). I'm stuck in the same boat, guess I have to wait for GM200 6/8GB cards to be released.
