SO i just put my 7800gt and asome other stuff for sale so i can get a 1900xt, but wondering, if that was really the best decision. I guess i kinda jumped up when i saw how much better the 1900 did than the 7800gtx 512 in FEAR. FEAR is pretty much all i play at the moment, maybe some quake4 and cod2 later, but for now its ALL FEAR. my 19" LCD only does 1280x1024 max, in fear i can only run 1024x768 though, because i hate the black sides with 1280x960. with my 7800gt Oc'ed i sitll can't run everything in Maximum settings, and i really really really want to. CPU is x2 3800 @ 2750 with 2gb of ram.

Now, will i actually see the imporvement i want with the 1900xt, or would i be BETTER off getting another 7800gt? I want to water cool my card(s), so a single card would be easier, but if the 7800's are considerable better i wouldn't mind putting in the extra work to WC those.

u cant run it at 1024x768 all max???

i have a x850xt pe and i run it at 1280x1024 with 4aa/16af and i get an avg of around 50fps

not multi player. i get up to 8200 in 3dmark 05, but i still get some choppiness. I can run the graphics test in FEAR, and i get like 45avg, last i remeber, but like 25% between 25-40 fps. I've got mouse speed turned up pretty high, so everything is always moving fast, but still, i can't play all maxed out. Same with quake 4, cod2 @ 1280x1024.

if you mainly play fear yes an upgrade to x1900xt would seem viable.

woah that seems odd you should be playing it a lot better than me...but if you NEED it then buy the x1900 but if i had a 7800gt then id wait for the next gen...

i know this might be stupid but do you have things running in the background whilst playing games? if so then it could be the cause for such low fps

go for it, FEAR is one the games where the extra shader power really comes in handy, nothings better then 1600x1200 with 4xaa and 16x HQ AF

I couldnt do that on my 7800GTX
I do play with vsync, but still....

Yes i have things running in background, but ive' got an x2 3800 @ 2750. Should not be phased AT ALL.

run the fear benchmark program and show screenshot proving you get around 50fps with 1280x1024 4xaa 16xaf.

i dont have the game anymore but i emailed my friend with the screenshots of me doing that because hes buying my computer...ill check if hes still got the screenshots...

Yeah at 1280x960 4AA/16AF everything max except softshadows my avg on the benchmark is 54, but 38% between 25-40 fps. I can't really play the game at those settings it's too choppy for my tastes. Although I need more ram.

Based on the above post, I would recommend another 7800gt and overclock the two. I have 2 7800gts in sli overclocked. My system is in my sig and I score 6600 on 3dmark06. The sm2 and sm3 scores for my system is almost that of the 7800gtx sli system and a little less than the x1900 crossfire system (by about 10% I think) when I compare to those listed on the link page.

By the way the above graph is for comparisons between the dual 7900s, dual 1800xts, and dual 1900s correct?
If so, I think I will not need to upgrade for awhile (say when AM2 comes out).

new drivers will change that. but yeah the less expensive option is to add another 7800gt. the ati will have better IQ and features. I'm getting the 1900xt b/c I want a single card for my SN25P and not to mess with my enourmous Supertower right now.

The x1900 xtx gets around 10430 marks in 3dmark 05. My SLI 7800gt's get over 11000 3dmarks. Pretty close.

3dmark05 doesnt really indicate in game performance

Pretty funny... I picked an xt because of FEAR and not wanting to redo my watercooling either. :D GTX 256 here. I'd have to switch out all the tubes and everything.

Hmm, sli 7800gts dont get much higher than a x1900xt overclocked in 3dmark 06, what seperate scores did you get on 3dmark 06?

menlatin, what else is a major factor in deciding? how about hdr+aa etc?!

why dont you just run 1280x1024 though? seems strange to have a 19 inch lcd and run 1280x960 really?? btw there is a bug sometimes that prevents you from selecting 1280x1024 so if your having that problem look up the fix its easy to find

I had the same problem with the res so I just opened the .CFG file with notepad and changed the res to 1280*1024 and now I run it like so, iside the game options it also shows me 1280*1024.
It's a well knowen thing actualy... (.CFG file thing)

And yes, single X1900XT will out perform the twin 78GT.

I run dual vmodded GTs in SLI and it's faster than an x1900xt I'd say but in your possition you'd probably be better off selling your GT and getting an x1900xt. They are better for FEAR and cod2.
