160 Billion Planets in the Milky Way?

If there were other advanced life in the universe wouldn't we have been contacted by now? I think it is safe to assume that we would have been contacted, and since we haven't (or at least I have no knowledge of it) can't I conclude that currently no advanced life exists anywhere in the universe? I think I can.

You have no concept of how big the universe is. Nor do you understand the added dimension of time when relating to galaxies billions of years old.

It has been less than 100 years since humanity began using communications that could go out into space and alert others to our presence. 100 light years is a VERY SMALL portion of the universe.

The Milky Way is 100,000-120,000 light years wide.

At present astronomers estimate there are another 200 billion Galaxies, not stars but entire galaxies, in the visible universe. When they launch the James Webb Space Telescope, that number will rise as we increase our sight range.

As far as the optically assisted computer enhanced human eye can see, there is no end in sight. The universe just keeps going.

Broadcast radio and television signals aren't detectable from outside our solar system. AM radio barely makes it further than the moon.

You cant see infra-light either.
Certain optical devices can, but how do you know
for certain, there not doctoring the results?

Doesnt mean it's not existant, even if I cant see it directly.

Because there is proof of infra light, there is no proof of any "god".

Yes, science is young, yes there are certainly things to be unlocked still in this thing we are a part of. But to me, If no science can detect it, if he/she/it cannot prove they are there, then they aren't. As I've said I wouldn't believe in wind if I couldn't feel it, I wouldn't believe in other planets if I couldn't see them. Humans used to think lightning bolts were "the gods", that has been proven to be false over time. The clearest example we have of humanity at this time is evolution, science has shown how that works.

What has your god proven? That it would rather so many go to "hell" and do horrible things to each other rather than show it's self and prove once and for all it is there?

If there was a god, it would show that it is there once and for all. Surely it/they would "save" more or humanity in doing this, showing once and for all that they were there. Would they not?

"Gods" are just a story book legend that gained popularity because people want to believe there is an after life and they will live on forever. Sure, some things in the bible are true...we should be good to each other and all of that. But the rest is just a fairy tell to make you feel comfortable that after you die you will "live forever" in some magical kingdom in the sky. If you harm each other you burn for eternity. Lol, okay.

Neat stuff. God did a good job when creating the universe.

Actually, the universe was created by a teapot diety floating around in venus.

And if you think of it in religious terms, that's a completely valid argument.

Yes, science is young,

Science is as old as man. "Modern" science will always be considered young. 400 years from now modern science will still be young and the things we know now as truths will be just as fancifull as the science of 400 years ago.

That adaptability of science is what makes it unique.

BTW, you can feel infrared light as heat if the intensity is strong enough. This is reproducable to the general observer.

God is to adults as Santa Clause is to children.

Needless to say I hope Im around long enough to POSSIBLY discover a planet with lifeforms.

What we need is turn ourselves into a space faring race. One we're no longer tied to a single planet (or a single system). Once we've become immune to extinction, it's only a matter of time before we run into another race. Even if it takes a few million years.

Care to tell me what other lifeforms besides the ones on earth has to do with there being or not being a creator of the universe? Leaving organized religion out of the retort if you dont mind.

Plain and simple and black and white.... There are other planets full of life without a single doubt.

150 billion planets in The Milky Way
We can see 30 up close?
30. Not 30 billion. 30.
That leaves 999,999,969 we can't see up close.
Oh. Did I mention there are billions of more galaxy's?

You would be a total fool to think we're the only ones. There are others that are likely ions upon ions ahead of us regarding tech and without a doubt others that are in the caveman era.

Sadly without some new breakthrough in fuel or science, we're done as a planet. I'm not saying its not possible, just highly unlikely we will ever get to the point of even making contact let alone going there.

I wish I could say I've never met someone so confident in their ignorance but I'd be lying if I did. Why don't you at least learn the basic tenets of the faiths you try to mock before you spout off like a jackass fresh out of anthropology 101?

And black holes come from black hole eggs.

And time comes from time eggs. You know, how we can't go back in time yet and only seem to proceed in a forward direction; strange...you have the assumption that the original black hole must have an existence. That black holes come from black hole eggs. Just like 'time' has its original existence and comes from 'time eggs'. Or if you are going to measure time from the Big Bang, then what existed before 'time' existed; IE before the first big bang?

That or we know near absolutely nothing about black holes due to the difficulty of obtaining any concrete data past the event horizon. I wonder if Black holes don't 'hatch from eggs :p' but rather somehow curve through time/space in an nearmost infinite chain so somewhere at the end of the line, a sub sub subx10,000,000,000,000 black hole of this universe creates this universe and thus its cyclic where the event can be both the cause and reaction in one. Perhaps the expansion of this universe is a positive energy change created by being drained from the universe via black wholes at a slightly slower rate than occasionally being added by another blackhole funneling energy in from another another universe.

We'll never know in our lifetime so I don't care too much about blackholes -- yet. 160 billion planets is interesting news to an extent but I'll be lucky if we land men on the closest planet outside this solar system with my lifetime let alone any other planets. Especially -- when you consider the direction Nasa's funding is going.

Pretty cool for sure, I'm with a large number of people that thinks we aren't the only intelligent life in this whole massive thing we're in. I don't think anyone has really been abducted like some claim, and I don't think we have alien ships from the Roswell incident, etc. but I do think there is other life out there, and at some point we will make contact with them in our future.

It's nearly impossible for there not to be other life forms out there, even though most religious nuts claim it is. But religions also say there are god where there is no proof, so this is really one in the same I suppose. Haha

Maybe one of these days we will find a way to start trying to send little signals to these planets to see if anyone is actually there, and maybe some day we will find a way to actually get to these planets. That would be pretty nifty, at least in my honest opinion. I hope scientists keep advancing technology to the point that this will be possible.

Christopher Hitchens has a lot of video/books on the subject of atheism....check out Youtube...he's amazing

I hear we found a planet in the Goldie Locks Belt that has temperatures that could sustain life. Pretty cool stuff.

That civ could easily be several hundred million years old by now, thus they could have some pretty high end tech.

I wonder if they have the HD8790 5GB card yet....I'm dieing to one-up some friends

Wake up people, there are no aliens.

If there were then God would have sent his son to save their people as well. The Bible doesn't say anything like that so we can infer that there are no aliens. The universe was created solely for us.

QUOTE THIS MAN. Finally someone speaks THE TRUTH!! :D;)

*lol religion*

I think you are on the right idea. And much closer to decent explanation to time eggs. People who like to say "but where did the big bang come from?!?!"" and "well big bangs have to START somewhere!!!11" are generally the ones who like to have a Creator (AKA God) attached to their version of reality. ;)

Hell, God didn't even bother saving the Chinese.

It sort of astounds me that people are seriously so dull they can't figure out that having a Creator isn't any simpler or better or more logical than a self-causing universe.

Same problem, different name.

I think God makes more sense than the universe itself. I suppose God - if he exists as described - needs no reason or "how" or "why". But the universe...it needs answers to those questions, dammit.

It's difficult to describe exactly what I'm trying to say so that might be confusing lol.

The theoretical big bang singularity would have zero volume but very high mass, and thus an infinite density. This would cause time to not exist ... as we know it.

The question remains, if God created man, who created God?

The deus ex machina approach.

Completely different principles. Lightning is god at his forge. Sun is god riding a chariot. Winter is god coming down from the north.

I don't understand how people think an omnipotent being with an ego problem ("I must be worshiped!") sitting around nowhere in particular for eternity "makes sense." It's just kind of weird.

The universe is also weird, but there's no debate that it's here.

Have you seen how many sales "The Sims" franchise has made?

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

What part of this don't you people understand?

I've been watching 'Bashar' videos on YouTube, which consist of 'channeled' information that is quite fascinating to me in its apparent logic about aspects of reality and the universe.

Bashar claims to be a human/alien hybrid and a 'contact specialist' from our perceived future. :D He says our planet is currently under quarantine from formal contact, but is being monitored by 15+ civilizations.

Here are some basic premises as I understand them:

Time is a construct of consciousness. Everything actually exists simultaneously. The flow of time is simply the result of a shifting of perspective, like a film strip moving through a projector, where only selected 'frames' are perceived in the moment 'now'. Everything that can be conceived, and all our possible choices, already exist, and we just shift between parallel realities from moment to moment, experiencing our own version of everything.

There is only one consciousness in ultimate reality, and one "particle" Bashar calls the Prime Radiant that makes up everything in existence. This one particle is not governed by any laws and moves at infinite speed to make it seem as if it exists in all places simultaneously. All energy/matter is the same thing vibrating at different frequencies. Reality has a 'scan rate'.

The purpose of reality is for the one consciousness to be able to know itself through experience, and since there is nothing outside of it, the only way to do this was to divide itself infinitely and create relativity so that things could be defined through their relationships to each other.

We are all multi-dimensional beings with an agenda to explore various themes here on Earth in this most dense dimension. Our physical brain is a filter for the higher consciousness and controls the perception of our reality. While reality is ultimately an illusion, our experience of it is real. We purposely limit our awareness to be able to have these experiences.

The location of an object in space-time is a variable in an equation that can be changed to allow instant travel to another location. The speed of light limit is only relevant to our third dimensional reality.

------

My personal belief is that if the idea of God is an entity that has a complete mastery of creation and manipulation of the universe, then humanity could one day, thousands or millions of years from now, have that kind of power. And if we can have that power, then it's possible that other beings that have existed longer than us already have that power.
