16 drives and 700 watt psu 1 rail blue screen

hey guys got a bit of a problem not sure where the problem lays

i have 16 drives plugged into an a coolermaster 700 watt psu

when i load windows with all 16 drives plugged in it justt blue screens

as soon as i disconnect 4 of the drives it starts up fine loads into windows and runs flawlesly ive had a few people tell me differrent stories..

1. that the sas cards rocketraid 2680 are not getting enough power resulting it to bluescreen soon as it loads windows although both the sas cards can see the drives in sas bios

2. the power supply is not generating enough power on the 12v rail to load the hdds and windows causing it to blue screen

im completely lost i know its one or the other someone please HELP meee thanks i advance
 
Try staggering spin-up?

Perhaps the spike caused by them all spinning up together is causing a problem.
 
Are they spinning up during windows or before windows loads. If the latter I do not believe the problem is power.
 
ya i tried that still the same problem soon as i load into windows its freezes then blue screens
 
Your drives will have spun up long before Windows starts booting or you would see problems with the Highpoint card booting it's bios.

Do you disconnect the same four drives every time?

If so, try disconnecting different drives. You could have a bad drive.

Or you just may have a marginal PSU.

My Hitachi 5K3000 drives only use 5 watts each while idling.
 
there stagering spinup before windows

but on the other hand if i remove the second sas all the drives power up correctly and no bluescreen

also when i put sas card back in and unplugg 4 of the drives it doesnt bluescreen thats what lead the asumption power between pcie llanes

sorry um i have tried disconnecing different drives still the same problem

and yea the drives are pritty much the same 6 watts on idle and the sas cards only require 5 watts
 
So any 4 drives discoed = working setup?

Tried them one at a time? or 6-1 rather.
Stuck them on a different rail?
Tried booting with them powered from a separate jumped ps?

yea so any disconnect 4 drives = working setup

i havent tried a jumped psu yet im gonna bring one home one from work plug 8 drives into one 8 into another and see how that goes im hoping its just a dud power supply

th power supply only has 1 12v rail i believe but yea the 16 drives are split across all the cables
 
A good quality 650W to 750W PSU should be enough for that setup. However that extreme power plus 700W is of very low quality. That entire PSU line is generally overrated in terms of power output: i.e a 600W PSU that can only do 450W of power, etc. So with so many drives connected to that low quality PSU, I recommend getting a new PSU ASAP. Something like the Corsair 650TX V2 650W PSU should be enough.
