So, what are the "cheap" options for 10GBase-T switches with 8 or more ports?

I see Dell PowerConnect 8024 on eBay for 3700-5000$. Other suggestions?

Currently 3700-5000 for an 8 port 10Gbit switch IS cheap, or at least relatively cheap. 10Gbit 5-8 port desk switches for home use are still a few years out.

Assuming the X540-AT2 really is $125 whenever it actually becomes available, chances are for the next few years the cheapest option for a 4-8 port 10Gbit switch/router will be throw 2 to 4 of those into a server and pass them into a switching/routing VM.

The way I see it is you can`t realistically have cheap and 10Gbe together in the same sentence, not yet at least.

just my opinion mind....:D

I already did that, or at least I've used three X520-T2. Now I'll have to put in one more NIC soon.

I really want to get a switch though. I could spend 3700$, I just want to check if there are other switches out there that I should consider.

Edit:

Well, I bought one for 3500$. Soon I'll have 24 10 GbE ports / 480 Gb bandwidth at home :D
