Is it worth the extra $ to get 1066MHz ram over 800MHz ram? What will the performance gain be? If you are overclocking would it be better to have 1066MHz and underclock if need be or overclock the 800Mhz? I am going to be getting the Intel Retail Edge package when it is announced but I don't even know at this time if it will use DDR2 or DDR3 (I hope DDR2 as DDR3 costs an arm + leg right now and the timings are too high).

If it's decent 800mhz ram it should overclock to at least 450 or more. But it all depends, if the 1066 isn't THAT much more expensive, than mineaswell give yourself the headroom.

If you get ddr2-800MHz ram you MAY have to losen timings a little to get to where you want when you're overclocking. With ddr2-1066 you won't have to worry about that.

I have 2GB of Crucial ddr2-1066 ram and when i had it running at 920, my timings were 4-4-3-9. However, now I'm at 1100MHz with 5-5-4-9. I really doubt you will get that with ram rated for 800Mhz.
