This "top ten" list of games you want for Christmas isn't bad but something tells me the games on the honorable mention list will outsell all the others (except for Skyrim). They also have a list of ten games you don't want for Christmas too. ;) Your top ten?

This is part 2 of my holiday post in time for the winter shopping period. Here are ten games that you will definitely want to get for Christmas. It’s time to be on your best behavior and hope that Santa brings a little something for you boys and girls. Nice is the way to go. Enjoy!

If Portal 2 hits 75% off on Steam I think I could add it. Last it was at 66% which I probably should have just bit on, but I thought too much :D

I think every "game" in that "top ten" was a console game......except maybe Portal, or was there a console version of that too?

Already got Batman AC. Its worth it. Nothing else on the list I care for. Hopefully this means getting into my backlog finally!

If anyone has Need For Speed: The Runs on there list. I'm gonna say go ahead and remove it promptly. I finished it last night. The game is like a beautiful car with nothing under the hood.

Yeah, Portal 2 is on the consoles as well.

Not a bad list. It's missing a couple and there were a few on there I have absolutely no interest in.

The way I look at xmas games shopping is that I am willing to pay $5-$10 for titles. If it isn't $10 or less I am not buying it. I have no problem to wait till next year to hit that price point, easily have a year or more of backlog to play.

Thats really smart, the only way that I'd buy a game is if its a mega hit and I know that its going to be amazing with tons of re playability (Diablo 3 fits this category a long with Half Life 3).

The only games I want for Christmas are the ones I know I'm getting already. I don't often ask for games as gifts anymore. I'd rather buy them myself on my own time and digitally to avoid having more useless boxes laying around.

Hoping for Portal 2 and/or Starcraft 2. GameStop has SC2 for $30 today, and I sent a link to my wife as a not-so-subtle hint

Honestly everything except 6, 8 and 10 are pretty solid choices. Now as for those three..how the F those even made the top 100 list is beyond me.

How so ? I had heard some good things about it being a quality PC port.

Compared to SR1 and 2, the story is almost non-existant. If you want, you can definitely finish it in less than 10 hours. Volition seemed to have spent so much time on making it over-the-top, they forgot what made SR1 and 2 fun. They even made the activities boring as hell, and some of the fun ones from SR2 (such as Fuzz) are gone. The weapon selections are pared waaaay back to almost bare minimum, and the upgrade system is crap. The respect system is crap now (think of it now as levels that determine when you can pay for upgrades to your character, rather than using your respect for doing missions). Don't even get me started on the Deckers and how much their stuff is nothing more than a Tron ripoff. Not to mention it's glitches from hell (and they have one bad track record for fixing the types of glitches you'd see in SR3...they STILL haven't fixed some of them in SR 1 and 2 (when they were relatively new games). I'm debating on whether to keep this piece of crap game until I can get a Black Magic Intensity Shuttle so I could do a rant video on this game.

Don't buy into the hype of this game...it's utter bullshit. I can't believe I canceled my preorder for Assassins Creed: Revelations for this game. I want my $60 back, dammit!

I'd skip that one. It's not even worth a rental. Volition nerfed the crap out of the game

The only game that I've not picked up that I want to play this Holiday Season is Saint's Row The Third. I've not head anything bad about it until now.

Brink is on sale for $5 on Steam this weekend, is it worth it?

Using respect for levels and gaining new things is MUCH better than being forced to play activities when you just want to play the damn story. I hated being forced to do activities in SR2. It was such a fucking stupid concept.

Activities are fine, but it felt like there should have been a couple more of them or a bit more feeling of verity to them. For the most part they are 100% the same as the SR2 counterparts so you calling them boring means you thought they were boring in SR2 as well.

The Deckers were supposed to be Tron rip offs. Way to completely miss the point.

The story is good in some points, falls apart in others. STAG kind of ruined it even if they felt more threatening than any other villain in the game.

They force you into some of the activites when playing the missions anyways...which was pointless since too many missions were wasted on "introducing" activities when they could have been used on better story development instead. Some of the upgrades, such as the one-off automatically gain territory is pointless since it is one use only (there is a way to get a second one, but it's a choice in the story). The fact that they gimped some weapon selection just to have the upgrades in the Friendly Fire stores and dual wield character upgrade was stupid.

May want to read again. If I didn't make it clear, then my bad, but I found the activities to be better in SR2 than in SR3. In fact, I actually liked the new activities added to SR2. Bigger variety, and you unlocked items/vehicles/bonuses in SR2. Volition seemed to strip the activities down to what seems a bare minimum. The Deckers Trailblazer activities was a big WTF moment since you really don't have to do anything but accelerate. Again, they added additional activity types in SR2 compared to SR1, but then in SR3 they gimped it.

The Deckers were supposed to be Tron rip offs. Way to completely miss the point.

I didn't miss anything...they were a horrible ripoff and their "conclusion" was extremely weak. Same with the Morning Star, but at least Morning Star had its moments.

See above for my thoughts on the Deckers storyline. The story as a whole was weak. It had moments, but nothing exciting. They could have done more with STAG (hell, they could have done more with all of the gangs) but in the end it felt as if everything was rushed.

Ultimately, I found SR3 to be a rushed mess that wasn't anywhere near as fun as SR1 or 2.

That site is focused on PS3 gaming. All the games on the list are PS3 titles.

I haven't owned a console since the Atari 2600 I got on my ninth birthday.

Yeah though at least introducing them as part of the story (as poorly done as it was) makes it feel like there is some point to them being there. The upgrades were mostly good and leveling up to getting all the unlimited ammo and invisibility was kind of fun since you felt like a real badass afterwards. The weapon selection was alright yes, but I didn't think it was bad. They covered most of the bases needed. A few more weird weapons would have been nice.

I might have read it wrong either way I agree and disagree. I think most of the activities were fine. The Decker Trailblazing was kind of dumb. They should have just gone full on Tron with it since that is what they were going for. I expected it to be a straight rip-off of the lightcycle races in the movies.

I liked the final Decker's mission, but the cut-scene after? Meh. I kept waiting for something to happen, but nope nothing. I liked the end for the Luchador's at least. That was fun as hell. The end of the Morning Stars felt like just a random mission, it didn't feel like a final one.

It seems like they skipped a lot of elements of the story. Things jumped too quickly at times. STAG had a lot of promise and made for some interesting changes to the activities and the characters were fun, but yeah they could have done a lot more.

I still think SR3 is a good game, but not as good as 2. I didn't play 1, but I've heard good thing. I have this nagging feeling that maybe some content was pulled for DLC. I hope I'm proven wrong, but it feels that way.

Currently planned DLC for SR3:
Genkibowl VII (available January 2012)
The Trouble with Clones... (available Spring 2012)
Gangstas in Space (available Winter 2012)

So compared to SR2, it may already have a better track record for DLC compared to SR2. No mention on cost yet.

there was this one PC game. Were you were the leader of a team of goth punk fighters with super powers. Your character dies very early in the game. He had the super power of jumping into the bodies of his teammates. You could jump at any time from teammate to teammate. The plot was that you were suppose to stop some occult from rising to take over the world. i cant remember the name >_>

You're thinking of Jericho I believe. If you are, I think "leader of a team of goth punk fighters with superpowers" is pretty far off.

Yeaa your right that was the game. I'm gonna add that to my wish list. It was an underrated game that could have been a lot better. I wished they made a sequel.

Ditto.

Of all the items on that list (both top 10 and honorable mentions) I only have interest in one, and that's Portal 2.

IMHO, Red Orchestra 2 ought to be up there.

I know, these more realistic FPS'es are not going to have broad appeal, as people like to run and gun, but to me, I could never play a run and gun game like CS, CoD, BF or any garbage like that again, after playing this.

My last console was the 8bit NES I got on my 6th birthday.

By the time I was 10 or 11 I had mostly outgrown consoles.

I'm no longer a kid which means two things.

1.) I don't play as many games as I used to and

2.) I don't have to wait for Xmas, if I want a game I just buy it.

That being said, I only came across two games released in 2011 I thought were worth buying. Red Orchestra 2, and Portal 2. I haven't bought Portal 2 yet. waiting for a good sale.

I may also wind up getting Deus Ex HR, but I'm undecided. Maybe if it goes on sale.

If I were into fantasy (which I am not) I may have been interested in Witcher 2 and Skyrim, but I avoid anything fantasy like the plague.

2010 was a better year. I came accross 3 games I thought were worth buying. Civilization V, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat and Metro 2033

I did buy Fallout New Vegas (and Fallout 3, but that;s 2009) but both these games had some sort of bug causing them to slow down t like 5fps after 5 minutes of playing, so I could never play them. As such I don't consider them in my "worth buying list".

So IMHO, the vast majority of games released are total uninteresting trash. I think its a stretch to even find even 5 games launched in any given year that are worth playing.

Heh, well. I have BF3, however my would love to have list would have to be (remember this is dreaming):

Left 4 Dead 3
Half Life 3
Portal 2 Expansion pack

All of which have no announce dates. :(

There is more to a game than its graphics :p

Though I do agree it looks amazing. Too much run and gun for my tastes though. They should have made it more realistic, like Arma II.

#5 Batman Arkham City Meta Score 96

#6 Everybody Dance GFN Score 80

And BF3 and MW3 just get honorable mentions?

Really???

This list must have been put together by the same guys who play Serious Sam BFE in Hippie blood mode...

I understand your premise but it's not that hard to find 5 good games a year you just have to get beyond EA and Activision. There's decent offerings from smaller development studios that nobody talks about which is why I like Steam. Examples such as Orcs must die or Killing Floor are hours of fun for a fraction of the price of a Modern Warfare 3 or Left 4 Dead.

I felt Fallout New Vegas was a disappointment and not worth full price. It looked more like DLC for Fallout 3 than a new game and I personally was bored with it pretty quickly. I got decent framerates but the game was buggy as hell and repetitive. Even using a cheat didn't help.

Oh yeah, and I'm not a kid either. ;)
