Engineers have managed to figure out how to bring photonics into a computer chip, which shows performance “about 10 to 50 times greater” than microprocessors currently on the market.

The researchers packed two processor cores with more than 70 million transistors and 850 photonic components onto a 3-by-6-millimeter chip. They fabricated the microprocessor in a foundry that mass-produces high-performance computer chips, proving that their design can be easily and quickly scaled up for commercial production.

The processor needed to complete Skynet.

We had a good run us humans.

should have made it a X86 cpu...... then they could have done apples to apples test.

This really is not a performance test of the interconnects. It is more of a test of getting communication to work at all.

10 to 50x the performance of current processors is good but............... How well will it run crysis ? :D

70 million transistors.....impressive

70M transistors for a dual core sporting that much muscle with such low power draw...damn I wish these were x86 compliant. Damn near go back to passive cooling.
