What ever happened to the days when people were lined up around the block a week in advance? Now six people is a big deal.

The new iPhone doesn't hit store shelves until Friday, but some eager buyers have already started lining up. Six Vietnamese people, who say they're neighbors in San Francisco, have camped out near the downtown Apple Store since about 6 p.m. PT on Tuesday -- more than two days before the iPhone actually goes on sale.

I have never understood how people had the time to do it anyway ... several other factors have changed with this launch ... first they are launching in a lot of countries (including China), some of the lines at the last releases were to buy models to sell in the Chinese market ... second, Apple is better at managing their supply for their launch so the shortages are shorter and less frequent ... third, we are many generations into the iPhone and we are in the tail end of the carrier subsidized model (where most people only upgrade every two years) so not everyone needs to upgrade immediately (or they are not eligible at this time)

it will be interesting to see how well Apple does with their payment plan (and whether other manufacturers adopt it) ... if it is popular (now that carrier subsidized models are ended) then Apple and the other manufacturers might be able to get folks back into an annual upgrade cycle, rather than a biannual or longer cycle ... the biggest risk for smartphones (they aren't there yet) is that they become robust and powerful enough that users upgrade them like TVs or computers (after multiple years of use)

You'd be better off just pre-ordering the second they go on sale online. That's what I did with the Nexus 5 and I was the first person on the block to get one.

Ive preordered every iPhone since the 5 online the day they start (not the moment they start, just the day they start) and have always gotten it launch day. No need for this stuff.

Waiting in lines just seems super silly anymore. Just order it and go about your day, haha.

Knowing these people must have a complete shit retirement account, because obviously they don't have a job to attend to for the next few days. This ultimately boils down to pathetic.

If you don't have anything to do with your time for days on end just to sit/stand outside of a huge corporation store, you're just a sheep. An unproductive sheep at that.

Idiots... I can think of a couple things I might wait out overnight (as in just ONE night) for, and anything from Apple sure the hell isn't it. I'd rather wipe my ass with eight crisp hundred dollar bills and flush them down the toilet than buy anything from them.

So black and white your views are.

I've done this before and I'll tell you exactly why I did and why it flies directly in the face of your stupid assumptions.

I work a job that has a little thing called paid time off. Now this amount of time because it is a good job and not a shit one is an amount that I generally don't completely use up. As such I typically have excess paid time off I need to use. So if I see a product that I feel is going to have huge demand that far exceeds the supply, I note that there is income potential there. So using a past example of what I've done (no I'm not camping the 6s, I don't see any real potential). I've sat in a line for a maximum of 2 days, trading off with a friend so neither of us had to stay there more than 12 hours or so. Now during that time I was getting paid normal wage the entire time. So I'm earning money for sitting there in my camping chair playing video games. Secondly I only bother with stuff that has enough profit margin to care about and that I can pick up 2-3 things. Now in this case the item in question flipped on ebay for an average of $800 pure profit. So with me picking up 3, and him picking up 3 that is $800 x 6 or $4800 between the two of us so $2400 total profit per person. Now that is for 48 hours of my time or $50/hr for playing games, eating and sleeping. The reality is we only spent 24 hours there individually so it is more like $100 an hour and that doesn't even count my normal wage that I'm already making.

I'm pretty sure that is the very definition of Productive.

Before anyone makes the argument of "It's taking advantage of people on ebay". I don't particularly care. Honestly if you are so impatient and desperate that you can't wait a few weeks for something that you are willing to pay double or more what it is worth. Then I'm not particularly bothered by it.

I knew it wouldn't be long before the Anti-Apple circle-jerk started around here. People care way to much about what other people use as a damn cell phone. I will never understand that.

There is NOTHING I would queue up to do, or buy that would take more than a very minimal amount of time. Time is the most valuable thing I have and I don't waste it if I can help it.

So here is the list:
Disneyworld. I might go to see it burn down. Beyond that; no thanks
Apple? Love them! My favorite is a golden delicious!
Movie Premiere? I would never stand in line for more than a few minutes.
Good Restaurant? The same; queuing up for something to eat seems strange since I have a pantry full of food at home.
Black Friday? LOL!!!!!!
Health Care? Sorry leftists; You socialist utopia where everyone is equally miserable is dissolving.

Sorry righties, your ultra conservative hell of oppression, racism, discrimination and social injustice isn't coming back either.

Sorta sounds silly once you match up extremist views on both sides huh? How about instead of continuing to push blind hate, we start pushing moderation, tolerance and equality? Because until that happens, nothing is improving. The extreme right is just as horrible as the extreme left.

Need to find that youtube video of the guy exiting the Apple store waving his new iPhone around and dancing; and then this thug steals it from him.
Funny stuff. :D

I am assuming your kneejerk reaction is because of this last point.
He isn't saying he is against equality but against Socialized medicine not working and causing everyone to SUFFER instead of everyone getting medical care. A point I happen to agree with.

But I doubt that you will listen to reason based on your clueless attack and inability to actually read and understand what he was saying.

If you think that was knee jerk then you seriously misinterpreted what I wrote. Furthermore you are horribly ill informed of you don't know why that Bill is such a giant mess. Here's is a clue though, or actually is mostly the rights fault. To busy playing politics instead of trying to find a real compromise. Both parties are equally bad.

If I had to guess what he was saying was that "I hate the left, and I will find any chance I have to take a shot at them, even if it's something as silly as an Apple thread, so I'll just pick a big target that the 'right' opposes and make fun of that"

Meanwhile, my health care/coverage hasn't changed at all, wow but you said everyone suffers and no one gets health care! And FYI, I live in a really heavy immigrant/poor populated part of the state.

You would be guessing wrong, I was responding to someone bringing political silliness into this thread. I conjectured a equally absurd comment to highlight the absurdity of the original.

You happen to agree with something that's not true at all. Socialization works great for societies. Get it?
