Apple is getting into the original programming business? I couldn't imagine what kind of shows they would come up with. Then again, I said the same thing about Netflix and Amazon.

Sources indicate the Cupertino, Calif., colossus has held preliminary conversations in recent weeks with executives in Hollywood to suss out their interest in spearheading efforts to produce entertainment content. The unit putting out the feelers reports into Eddy Cue, who is Apple’s point man on all content-related matters, from its negotiations with programmers for Apple TV to its recent faceoff with Taylor Swift.

Apple should stay out of this. I don't see anything good for them in this. People are moving to streaming, but people won't pay Apple prices for streaming.

Nor laptops, phones, tablets or music... no wait...:rolleyes:

Yep working an extremely crowded already premium market for a $30 premium over amazon, hulu, HBO2GO, and netflix will do WONDERS for their bottom line.

How are those apple TV & watch sales working out for ya?

Yeah because competition is such a bad thing ... Apple has one advantage over Amazon and Netflix (they have tons of money) ... part of getting equivalent programming to the big budget Network shows and HBO shows is going to be production values and budget (shows like Game of Thrones can run more than 60 million a season ... Network shows can run more than 100 million) ... whether you like Apple as a company, having one more choice for streaming content is a good thing ... the other advantage of more players is that more specialized shows now have a shot ... a game franchise like Fallout or Bioshock could actually make an excellent series (with the proper production values) ... having one more source to get shows made is generally a good thing (at least in my book) ;)

For sure. Anything that makes the big TV networks have to work harder to put out quality content is a good thing in my book.

I expect Apple to levy similar restrictions on TV content to their app content. Little violence, no nudity and coarse language no worse than darn.

Little violence? ... have you played any apps lately (there are plenty of zombie and shooter apps with lots of blood and violence) ... the nudity restriction is probably less about moral outrage and more about legal protection ... there is no indication that Apple will be forced into the same situations with video ... I am pretty sure they sell songs that come with warnings about language ... and they certainly sell movies that are rated R

I stand corrected. Why my family uses iPhones and iPads, I only own an iPad Mini Retina which I use for little more than browsing.

But I do believe anything produced under the Apple banner and exclusive would shy away from certain types of content.

Possibly, but they are also a business and iTunes has been fairly flexible about what it covers ... I wouldn't expect to see pornographic shows on any of the streaming sources (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple) but since they are trying to break into a new market (for them) I think they will experiment with content a lot

By original programming, does this mean coming up with their own features instead of copying Android all the time?

Yeah, no thanks. I'm not interested in Apple shoving it's moral code down my throat, or allowing them to place whatever restrictions they deem acceptable on a device I own.

Well it will be the first time they programmed anything original since the Apple IIe.
