According to a statement from Google, just .000001% of disk space was permanently affected by the lightning strike. I wonder how many petabytes that is? Exabytes maybe? Zettabytes?

"Although automatic auxiliary systems restored power quickly, and the storage systems are designed with battery backup, some recently written data was located on storage systems which were more susceptible to power failure from extended or repeated battery drain," it said. The GCE service allows Google's clients to store data and run virtual computers in the cloud. It's not known which clients were affected, or what type of data was lost.

Reading the issue logs for google is an entertaining activity.

Even google employees are susceptible to fat-fingering a setting, just like us!
At 13:21, while reviewing the production status of the Developer Console, a Google engineer inadvertently disabled the production instance of the console. The engineer immediately recognised the error and began remediating the problem, but the configuration change had also engaged a security mechanism which restricted the application to the Google corporate network. This mechanism was identified and disengaged at 14:01, which restored public access to the Console.

Let me guess it selectively zapped Hillary Clinton's e-mail archive.
