The Apple rumor of the day is the company is working on a massive head-up display for cars. Apple will no doubt name it something catchy with an "i" in it like iHead Up ASS (Automotive Screen System). ;)

The massive 27- to 50-inch wide display is “very likely” to enter production, tech analyst Chip Chowdhry told the Washington Post. It would go beyond other head-up displays as well by offering gesture controls thanks to a set of sensors wired to the windshield.

Heads up displays for cars are the dumbest idea ever. It's bad enough that we have issues with distracted driving as it is. It's not a jet fighter.

Of course another innovation by Apple but transparent display technology sourced from Samsung. :p

So people are better off acquiring the same information by..... taking their eyes off the road completely?

Greeeeaaat... If it's anything like their Macbook lines, if you get a crack in it it'll be more cost effective to just replace the whole car instead of just the windshield. :D

So once again Apple is taking an existing product (head up displays) adding fluff and marketing.
Soon they will be claiming they invented it, and the iBots will be lining up to buy it.

What seems to actually be happening is the Fandroids getting really angry and making statements like that. You should be happy, this opens up other manufacturers to improve on it/make their own.

Gesture controls? So if you flip someone off does it automatically deploy chainguns and terminate them for you? If not, what's the point?

I couldn't live without it after currently owning a car with one...

I've always thought about an active windscreen that can block bright lights from blinding you by darkening a small section of the windshield. It would have to track the drives head to get the angle right.

Same with projecting enhanced images at night.
