What Kind Of Fireworks Are Legal In Your State

Ahhh, the smell of relative freedom on a 4th of July morning.......too bad I can't even own sparklers in my state without a permit.

/Can't own fireworks because they are too loud and too dangerous. Also can't own a silencer because it's too quiet, and they probably would have stripped our 2A rights as well if they didn't have to fight their way past a constitutional amendment and a state preemption statute.

When did celebrating Our Independence become illegal with Fireworks?

Ever since too many people have taken no responsibility in using said fireworks and have cause millions of dollar in property damage, forest / wild fires, and excess resources to deal with them being morons. Yes, the majority have paid the price for the actions of a few :(

Florida disallows: Firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, daygo bombs, and any fireworks
containing explosive or flammable compounds.

Which is pretty much everything worth a damn. lol

Now need another map which states allow the FUN fireworks, and which ones only allow "Safe and Sane" which should be called Boring and Tiny.

They banned everything including sparklers in Alexandria VA. Everywhere else around me in VA was fair game.

NY no longer bans all fireworks, they just changed the law this year. Most of the cooler one are still banned though.

This still confuses me. PA is blue but all the good fireworks are banned here and you can't buy them. Everyone from pittsburgh goes to Ohio which is yellow to buy the good fireworks and even the the PA state police check cars coming into pa from oh for illegal fireworks and confiscate them.

Let's not forget that cities and counties have their own laws. Here, I've heard that you can buy anything you want, but it's only legal to actually use the boring stuff like sparklers and snakes. Fires are the main reason, I think.

I live near the fire department, so I hear the sirens all of the time. It's around July 4th and around October (furnaces and fireplaces) that seem to be the peaks in activity.

And that's why I drive to the Indian reservation, they have the real good stuff. You know when they take you around the back of the stall and kick open a cooler full of M80s and above it's going to be a good 4th!

Here's my stash. Celebrating Independence away from Kalifornistan for the 1st time :D.

WI pretty much bans anything that goes "bang", including bottle rockets and roman candles. Of course their so easy to obtain its ridiculous because we are allowed to sell those things to out off stater's. Police don't care unless you're causing a fire hazard or some sort of endangerment.

I used to go nuts about firework in my younger years...

I had firecrackers blow up in my hands while throwing them. There was this guy from the local reservation who said these are powerfull and he showed like 3 fingers cause he lost one with a M-80 or something.

I have nobody to impress with firework so I just play video game if I want to burn my eyes into something.

Happy 4th of July !!!!!

Can't wait to goto work....

I'm on the outskirts of the drought on the West Coast. We've had hot dry weather for a long time, with no rain at all in the past couple of weeks and temps in the 90s. Everything is tinder dry to a scary level, and we're two states away from California.

It's noon on the 4th of July and we haven't heard any firecrackers at all in my neighborhood. That level of restraint is highly unusual. Maybe nobody's house will burn down this time.

That's funny, because of our laws here in Ohio, Ohioans all drive to Indiana where they sell much better fireworks than is legal in Ohio. Seriously our fireworks stores are a damn overpriced joke.

Went shopping today, found out the only things the allow are sparklers and shower types... big Fucking deal. Screw this state. I'll just do what I did last year and fire of a bunch of blanks out of my .45 till the cops show up. Hand them my paperwork that's says I can, and continue doing so. Might not be as flashy, but it's better than the pitiful things they allow for fireworks.

It shows ID as blue but the local news said all exploding and aerial fireworks are illegal and bans will be enforced.
Hell even WY which sells fireworks or least once did they are illegal too.

It has been bone dry in those parts which might be the reason too.

CO, fireworks were illegal there 20 years ago and still are although they were not enforced hard.
I am sure that has changed.

In parts of my state if it 'goes up or blows up' it is illegal, which means if it goes up or blows up you will see and hear it everywhere on the fourth of July.

Bout 3/4 of what I set off last night was technically not legal... But im in the "everyone else does it" camp... Was at a friends place & on that block there was at least 2 other houses that were also launching off mortars which are a no no..

illegal in my municipality...but the town immediately adjacent to an indian reservation and an army base so...

lets just say it was a fucking war zone 360 degrees as far as the eye could see

That's kind of my feeling with fireworks, even though all of them are illegal in the People's Republic of San Francisco, that doesn't mean there are no fireworks. Sure I'm not lighting them and there's a little disappointment in that, I'm also not just burning away money for a few minutes of fun, looking around I saw mortars, roman candles, all sorts of exploding fireworks all over the place, in one particular direction outside a window 3 different places where they were going off blocks away from me, they go higher than the houses so I got a good view in one direction, in another direction looked like lightning was going off it was flashing so much outside.

And at the end of the day that's the best thing about having a complete ban on fireworks, is no one is going to bother with the safe and sane shit, not if the fine for getting caught is the same, they're going to go out in style :D I'm sure having a Chinatown in the city doesn't hurt matters much either :D

It's funny though because they don't ban the sale of them. I can drive to Phantom Fireworks in the florida keys and they sell every kind of firework out there. Also it doesn't stop anyone from launching them lol cops don't give a shit cause every home in the state is blowing shit up.

And at the end of the day when cities bitch and moan about the "true cost" of 4th of July to the city it really does come down to this. Are you going to pay a bunch of extra cops overtime for extra patrols to try and catch who's setting off fireworks, or do you just sit back with your standard emergency crews (fire, police, ambulance) and in the case something super bad does happen you can deal with it when it happens.

Fun fact for those in NY.
"Exotic" shotgun shells are legal
Blank .45 are legal
Signal flares are legal

Combined you can make a ton of noise, lots of flash, piss loads of people off and the cops can't do a damn thing about it. The 4 th ended up being good fun, despite the ban and the fact that this town puts on a pitiful show.

Didn't matter around the area. Tri-cities had fireworks banned completely and they were still using them. In my town (a bit south), we had the cops using the illegal ones (mortars). It was fun and a good show, though.

City fireworks really blew this year, though. A good 7 minutes or so and very unimpressive.

Pretty much, they tend to keep the cops at the hospitals ready for escorts or setting up DUI checkpoints.

The nazi state of ct bans everything except sparklers and ground based showering type fireworks. Nothing that moves, and nothing that makes any noise

I shake my head and wonder why in the hell we have "fireworks" tents in EVERY parking lot for a month prior to the 4th. Who in the hell is buying this shit?

This is all that is legal here in VA,
Sparklers, fountains, pharaoh’s serpents,
pinwheels, and whirligigs

Agreed. ...and I suspect we both live in the boring and tiny fireworks state. Didn't even see fireworks for sale anywhere, because, well, they're BORING!

After setting off most of my fireworks, I can definitely see why these are illegal in most areas lol.

I saved a few too, because apparently you're allowed to set them off any day of the year between 9am-11pm. Holidays get extended hours :).
