I'm actually kind of surprised China hasn't copied Netflix and HBO sooner than this.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd will launch an online video streaming service in China in about two months, hoping to emulate the U.S.'s Netflix and HBO, the firm's head of digital entertainment said on Sunday. "Our mission, the mission of all of Alibaba, is to redefine home entertainment," said Liu. "Our goal is to become like HBO in the United States, to become like Netflix in the United States."

So will it offer counterfeit shows and movies like a lot of what is for sale on Alibaba?

Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent pretty much are the google, Amazon and Facebook of China. There iis no way that the Chinese market will be open to western MNC even if you only consider the economics of it. All of these groups have bankrolled party officials and they are card carrying members and influencers themselves.
