File this one in the ‘Yeah, Like That’s Ever Going to Happen’ file. On Friday, the MPAA issued an ultimatum to all piracy sites to shut down operations within 24 hours or face legal action.

All opportunities provided by the Website to download, stream or otherwise obtain access to the Entertainment Content should be disabled permanently.

Let me know how that works out for you. LOL

1) pirates going to pirate. Shut down the internet or legislate some sort of world wide walled garden only you, the MPAA control, and people will still pirate.

2) You product, your content, is no longer worth as much as it used to be. That is a simple fact you are going to have to get used to. Pay {star of choice here} half what he/she/it used to get, or hire someone that will work for that amount.

While you're at it, realize the movie theater experience no longer has a lock on our entertainment time. Like Disney World, Great America, zoos, museums...you have competition that didn't exist in the '90s. Mostly digital.

Either figure out how to deal with it or quit whining.

All drug dealers must stop dealing drugs within 24 hours or face legal action.

That'll work, right?

You need a website to provide (illegal) access to copyrighted content? What a quaint notion...

Top money making movie of all time = Avatar
Top pirated movie of all time = Avatar
STFU MPAA!

Good for a laugh. I'm guessing all of their efforts have failed. These sites go to countries that are friendly to them. They have no legal recourse. Their six strikes (or whatever) and extortion mailers have created a booming VPN market.

At what point do they get the picture?

You know how they have setup "gun free" zones around the country? We should setup a "piracy free zone" on the internet, so that pirates know its illegal.

Fun fact, did you know that there are way more museums in the United States than there are McDonalds and Starbucks combined? We seriously need to shut down and consolidate a lot of museums into fewer mega-museums.

This reminds me of Michael Bay movies where they talk about hacking the internet.

Hollywood’s chief lobbying body has reportedly ordered piracy sites across the globe to shut down immediately or face legal action.

america is NOT the world.

give up your crusade. all you are doing is re arranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

Hollywood is circling the drain. Internet video is now the dominate form of media. No way to stop evolution. I don't even worry about it anymore.

Face legal action? Aside fromthe ones before? or along with the ones before? Or were the ones before illegal? I think there's quite a bit from the 3rd column but ... well, they got money.

You're comparing oranges and apples.

If you really, really[/] mean drug dealers (aka cartels), you're going to need the military forces of every country involved in a World War against drugs because they won't go down without a fight.

Software/movie/audio pirates on the other hand, they go down easy with minimal resistance.

Pirates do go down easy but with the world as big as it is, they aren't down for long. ;)

He is correct, they do go down easy. They just pop right back up, or another comes along to take it's place nearly immediately.

Someone clearly hasn't been paying attention. Other than a small handful of names, out of millions upon millions of people, no pirates have "gone down".

All of the armies in the world wouldn't be able to eliminate human being's desire for doing drugs, unless they killed all human beings and then themselves. ;)

Two "wars" that really can't be won by the other side. It's entertaining watching them try though.

MPAA: You need to shut down!
YarHarHarJarJar: Okay!
MPAA: Really?
YarHarHarJarJar: Really!
*Shutdown*
MPAA: Thanks!
YarHarHarJarJar: No problem!
*Hits the power button*
YarHarHarJarJar: I needed to reboot to patch something anyhow!

Piracy should apply to the the fake food industry, congress should shut down McDs & Starbucks for using genetically modified foods and make it illegal for them to say it is legal to consume their fake food & coffee. At least pirated media content is real and harmless to the heart, mind, eyes and ears of humans. :D

Well it's been over 24 hours, looks like all the piracy sites were shut down.

I agree. Corn is a completely unnatural thing and should be banished from production & consumption. Back to all-natural foods, before humans started messing with them :D

(Hint: modern corn - including non-GMO versions - cannot reproduce without human help)

It's not like forces withing governments are not the ones responsible for creating and maintaining these cartels in the first place. But you're right, they won't go without a fight. They don't want to pay taxes.

Cartels pay off the right people, so the real players never go down, they don't want them to, as they would not get their share of the money, sure, you see busts now and again, but nothing that even amounts to 5% of what they move, nothing but a smoke screen.

Pirates, on the other hand don't pay people off, its not that kind of big money either, but the ones who have gone down are just a hand full of people, the pirating side of things, from the users to the sites are going strong, and have never gone down, the few sites that have are right back up in 24 hours or something else takes its place.

If they did make a walled garden like someone else suggested, you would find almost no one using it, and you would see darkweb really take off for the first time, that would be the push many MANY people need to use it.
