Having a bit of a storage problem on your smartphone? Well, SanDisk hears you and has introduced a MicroSD card with 200GB of memory to handle just about anything you can throw at it, storage-wise.

The price could easily be a showstopper, though. SanDisk will ask an eye-watering $400 for the 200GB card when it ships in the second quarter

What's the theoretical limit on MicroSD technology? Will we actually see a terabyte version one day?

The current specification limit is 2TB, but physical constraints seem to be about 10x smaller right now. :p

If density doubled every 18 months, a 5nm based device may hit 2TB in the early 2020s.

While the amount of storage one can store on something the size of a thumbnail is astounding, having to do it via TLC (unreliable at best) is problematic long-term. First thing I thought is that 28% of the flash (if it's internally 256GB) is overprovisioned just so the flash can write more than a few times without burning out. And certainly not for $400. I bet the random writes will be AWFUL on this thing.
