This report, citing anonymous sources in the semiconductor industry, claims that Samsung will be the main processor supplier for the next iPhone.

South Korea's Samsung Electronics will be the main supplier of processors powering Apple's next iPhone, Maeil Business Newspaper reported on Monday, citing unidentified sources in the semiconductor industry. Samsung will be responsible for around 75 per cent of the chip production for the next iPhone, the South Korean newspaper said.

How about this Apple. Why don't you take some of your billions of cash on hand and invest it in production of your product in the US? Not everybody wants a career at the Apple Genius bar you know.... They took our jobs!

Will the next iPhone come with a sticker that says "Samsung inside" ?

Apple is a business, not a charity. It doesn't matter how many billions of dollars they have.

Also, you need a fab to produce these things. Samsung has great fabs and capacity. Build more fabs in the US, keep the price competitive, and you'll see those jobs return.

RTFA.

Samsung will make the chips from its factory in Austin, Texas, according to the report.

Hey, at least this way it has the benefit of giving work to US citizens at the fabs and multiple times with the shipping companies! :p

Pay someone in the US $32 an hour in wage and benefits or pay someone in China $1.32 an hour? You do the math.

Actually many of the RF chips in almost all smart phones are made in the US, by IBM of all people. Of course as with most American companies they are too eager to rid themselves of US jobs for Wall Street cred.

Sounds like Samsung is just fabbing the chip (what happened to Apple monopolizing TSMC capacity?), but aren't they still designing the chip themselves? At least that's what my interaction with Apple's CSM team leads me to believe.

Texas Instruments has been making parts (chips) for Apple for several years now, and not just the phones.

Also they assemble Mac Pro in Austin. I don't know if any other computer manufacturer assembles in America.

How many phones do you sell to the $32/hr employee vs. an unemployed US employee and a China employee?

If you're the only one who did it in the country, you make out. The problem with your logic is everyone's had the same idea. No high wage US workforce means no one to buy all this crap. Maybe China might have a vibrant market form in time, but even if they did, do they need you anymore at all if they sell China made goods under China brands to Chinese consumers?

I'm sure it does make sense once you do a calculation of the total cost. Assembling the parts require plenty of manpower, but they don't need to be experts or anything like that, and China is the best place to get plenty of cheap untrained manpower.

Chip fabrication however requires engineering experts which can only be found in nations where its education system is good enough to produce such expert (ie. developed nations)

It's not just a US problem, as you would have similar costs in Germany and other places in Europe. If anything blame the people who would have a fit that their dividend is lower because of labor costs.

You know what I am sick of this Wall Street sponsored view.
How about this companies pay living waves of 20$ minimum with full benefits or they can go broke, or they can GTFO, and have their shitty non-US products taxed to death, how about that?
Enough of this BS, there is such a thing as social responsibility towards your country, and companies are part of it. Walmart is not a 'smart' agile company, it is a freaking net loss to our society, a freaking parasite.
If you think about it, if you can't pay a wage that sustains people and enriches your country (and that is about 20$ with benefits) how the hell can you argue that the economic activity generated by your company is a net positive to society, it doesn't even provide the minimum threshold a FREAKING LIVING WAGE!. Same goes, if you have to outsource, GTFO, or go BROKE!.
With the same breath people say oohh no minimum wage, then no social protections either.. seriously! how about no more parasite companies like Walmart, or APPLE, MS what just want to outsource to make MORE billions, you know because billions is not enough gotta have trillions! screw proving jobs and living wages, no I want to sell out the US and make billions baby.. its what wall street says!.. and every idiot goes huh-huh! Apple works for the share holders huh-huh! suuuure.
