Social Media Bots Offer Phony Friends and Real Profit

In a nutshell, this is what is wrong with the whole social media thing. Well, there's lots of stuff wrong with social media, but you know what I mean. ;)

We’ve known about bots for some time (I wrote about them earlier this year, and how anyone can buy a few thousand “friends” for $5). But making these fake accounts used to be difficult, requiring lots of programming deft. Now, even I can make my own — and trust me, my programming skills are minimal.

I always block these bots on Twitter & Instagram. No need for fake friends just to make myself look amazing. Social media is definitely a major addiction for some people & it won't get any better for them when crap like this is available for purchase.
 
Isn't this like buying coins in a free-to-play game? You're taking a shortcut! Get out there and get some real friends.
