It’s now officially a done deal: Twitch has now been acquired by Amazon with a price tag of $970 Million bucks.

The company’s CEO, Emmett Shear, said earlier this month that he sold Twitch to Amazon — rather than Google, which had been pursuing the site — to maintain independence.

Twitch makes some sense. Youtube is one of the few things Google actually has going for it. Amazon needs its own content. Granted Twitch is a niche subset of what Youtube does, but a major one.

I'm not so sure. It wouldn't surprise me if they turn it into a massive education resource. They have enough lobbying dollars to make that back in 'tied-in' educational sales when they sell Windows & Office to schools.
