This whole issue reminds me of the South Park HUMANCENTiPAD episode. You deserve what you get if you don't read the terms of service. Especially if you are trying to pass off Microsoft trade secrets to a third party using Hotmail.

In this case, we took extraordinary actions based on the specific circumstances. We received information that indicated an employee was providing stolen intellectual property, including code relating to our activation process, to a third party who, in turn, had a history of trafficking for profit in this type of material. In order to protect our customers and the security and integrity of our products, we conducted an investigation over many months with law enforcement agencies in multiple countries. This included the issuance of a court order for the search of a home relating to evidence of the criminal acts involved. The investigation repeatedly identified clear evidence that the third party involved intended to sell Microsoft IP and had done so in the past.

Anybody expecting privacy from a "free" email service at this point must've had a recent concussion. Run your own server or give up on the whole notion. Then wait for the NSA to hack it.

Microshafted.

Microsoft, first in bed with the NSA, and now they are just reading your emails themselves.

As opposed to google (also legally obligated to provide info to the NSA) who makes no bones about scouring your e-mail to advertise to you, and sells your info to 3rd parties? Keep in mind 90+% of Google profits are advertising, in other words selling info about you to whoever finds it valuable.

Difference is Google is upfront about it.
Microsoft isn't. And instead wastes time and money on hypocrisy like Scroogled.

Google will approach you from the front whereas Microsoft will stab you in the back.
