Out of control takedown notices are always funny. Thankfully Google was there to save these guys from themselves. ;)

Spinnin’ Records, one of the largest independent dance music labels, has been sending several unusual takedown requests to Google. The record label asked the search engine to take down the Twitter pages of several of its own top artists, including Afrojack, as well as its own account. Google, thus far, has refused to help out with this blatant attempt at self-censorship.

Why didn't they? This seems like something they should be doing to not have prejudice or playing favorites to anything like they seem to have been doing with other stuff.

Same thing is going on with youtube right now, all the pony fan creations are getting flagged with strikes/DMCA claims for videos -THEY MADE- that are 100% original with DMCA takedown notices, including stuff like Jan Animations and 2snacks Two Best Sisters series, simply because they have "My little pony" or have pony related text in the description, and Hasbro's automated DMCA bots can't tell the difference

Spinnin' Records should sure Google for refusing to shut themselves up.

Automated abuse of bad legislation.

The world hasn't become a grim, corporate dystopia at all.

Wait...
Shouldn't they just take these things down themselves by contacting their artists?
Really?
Are companies THAT lazy?!

The artists most likely sold their rights...so it is entirely the rightsholders (the label's) problem....that being said, yes they are that lazy in robo-processing paperwork. Just like the banks were happy to rubberstamp incorrect foreclosure papers wrongly on mortgaged homeowners.

This is one of the big issues that's wrong with copyright/patents and all that stuff. Only the actual one who MADE the product should have the rights. You should not be able to sell and have some other company gain control of what you make. These artists get suckered into these contracts that look nice on the surface then they get shitted on by these megacorps and there's nothing they can do because they signed. Imagine not being allowed to talk about a song that you made and you are asked to take down your twitter account (or in this case Google asked to censor it).

I think there needs to be more awareness among artists that they should never, ever, ever go with a label. It may seem tempting at first but it always ends up a crapshute for both the artist and the fans. The record labels need to die.

I don't understand why Google didn't just go ahead and take them down. It would remind these recording companies not to get trigger happy with the system.
