Trove Starts Alpha Testing, Sells Supporter Packs

Trion Worlds is offering invitations to play the Alpha of their new game, Trove, for $5 bucks and up, all the way to $2500 matter of fact. Is this trend of pay-as-the-gaming-companies-develop going to become the norm in game development or is this just an offshoot of the Kickstarter push for R&D funding? Taking this kind of approach with customers just makes it look as though Trion aren’t particularly confident of what they’re doing any more and want to make a quick buck before cashing out.

Wow $2500.00 for a founders pack? Wow, thats alot of money to put out and having not even played the game..

Th$2500 is a lot for a company that is hurting as badly as Trion is. Right after the Rift expansion they canned the entire QA team, closed up the European offices, canned a bunch of customer support, and cut phone support.
